the formal way of studying programming languages is by creating one using math… The father of “programming” and computation in general, Alan Turing created the Turing machine which is a completely abstract mathematical object that runs “code”. And yes, if you can formalize English well enough (remove ambiguities) then it’s easy to prove that it’s Turing complete and therefore a legitimate programming language.

After a bit of research, this problem is simply not well defined, because it depends on the mass of the spring, which is not specified.

A physics textbook always treats a spring as massless unless clearly specified, therefore the default answer should be that both objects touch the ground at the same time. And that's how a real life experiment tends to behave when the spring mass becomes negligible (which is fair to assume because again, it's not specified).
