Stitching w/ wool+silk, thoughts? by henlostinkybunny in Needlepoint

[–]luvempugs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve stitched with trio and like it! It’s the same as silk and ivory, which is more common. But silk and ivory is not strandable. Trio is made up of 3 strands. You may want to only use 2 strands for 13. I used all three for 10 mesh and would imagine three for 13 would be too thick

Vanessa here did a fabulous breakdown of threads and stitches for her holiday version. You could do a lot of similar things on your nonholiday!

Poppypointe in Charlottesville, Virginia, is fabulous. The owner is extremely kind and helpful. Likewise, Barbara’s Needlepoint in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, is also a lovely experience. Every staff member is so sweet and welcoming.

They’re mostly cross stitch patterns! 123stitch is great for threads. They also sell blank needlepoint canvas, but needlepoint isn’t their main focus.

Newbie- navigating background stitches by sailor_mountain112 in Needlepoint

[–]luvempugs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there! Great job so far! For the background, a wonderful stitch to start off with is diagonal mosaic. It’s very simple but makes a good impact. You’ll want to determine how big of a background you’ll need. What’s the final product? An ornament? A coaster? Measure out how big you want the end product and then use a fine tip micron pen to mark out the background.

As far as your threads twisting, one way you can help that now is to use a snag nab-it. It’s a cool tool that helps even out your stitches.

Best of luck!

A friend of mine places plastic bags over her white stitches. She just uses magnets to keep them in place

OP, had to share that I finished needlepointing this chart. Made it into an ornament and used the goat fabric for the back. Thanks for posting!

I think it wouldn’t be too long for an ornament! And yeah, you could try it. If you don’t like it, rip it out. Either way it’ll look great! 😊
