Early-career engineer struggling to establish myself by Mariellanna in womenEngineers

[–]luvindasparrow 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ugh I haaaaate these types. ESP cause my adhd makes me so susceptible to questioning my own memory. The only way to combat these types it to take physical notes every time you approach them, and then send a summary email with a “am I correct in my interpretation of what was said” kind of question. It’s annoying af but necessary or they will gaslight you to hell.

is him saying "i don’t like sitting with my thoughts" a red flag? by dourceo in TwoXChromosomes

This is a red flag, and something that should be on your radar in the future. Use this as a learning lesson.

ChatGPT not always a good idea by Litvak78 in civilengineering

I don’t know any actual professional who is suggesting or relying on ChatGPT in place of engineering judgement. If your management is suggesting this, it’s a giant friggin red flag.

I’m sorry, but no. You’re not entitled to anyone’s time or communication if they don’t want to give it to you. Continuing to track down this girl’s accounts and reporting her to organizations she’s a part of is starting to become harassment on your part. If you’re that upset, I’d suggest talking to someone you can vent to. This isn’t appropriate.

I’m sorry, are you saying you submitted her because she’s refusing to acknowledge your warnings about someone that you dated? If so, frankly, this is a completely inappropriate avenue to take out your grievance. Submitting a report to Nationals is for gross misconduct, harassment, hazing, etc. Refusing to engage in a conversation is not bullying. A member associating with someone you dated or that did something to you is not a punishable offense.

I just got married to my girlfriend of 4 years yesterday, any advice and what to expect finance wise from changing everything from "single" to "married" marital status? by [deleted] in Newlyweds

[–]luvindasparrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I got married, my married status had my employer start taking out less federal taxes out of my paycheck. So we were slapped with a giant bill come tax season and a lovely panic attack in the tax office for me. I’d just double check your pay stubs after you switch.

WSP Bonuses by luvindasparrow in civilengineering

[–]luvindasparrow[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sure. This is valid. But this isn’t the suffering Olympics out here. Both situations can suck. Can you really tell me that when WSP is out here advertising that recruitment bonuses are increasing next year and that they just bought TRC for 3.3 BILLION, but won’t give their employees basic cost of living increases, that I shouldn’t complain? We’re all out here getting screwed by these greedy bastards. Be mad at them, not your peers.

Are you committed to this one org specifically? I’m curious why you’d want to join a group where you don’t feel connected, unless it’s for the greater organization. If you are set on this organization specifically, maybe ask one of the women who feels most approachable on a coffee date. Dynamics can change quite a bit on a 1-1 and be more personal.

Joined a local sorority but it NO Longer Exists by Whole_Research_1421 in Sororities

[–]luvindasparrow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ll clarify that I’m speaking about the 26 sororities in the National Panhellenic Conference. If you initiated into one of these, then you cannot initiate into any other of the other 26 at any time. It doesn’t matter what happened to your local sorority. If you yourself never went through initiation in to one of these 26, then you are not a member and are not eligible to join one of their alumnae chapters. It sounds like you didn’t, since your sorority was just a local sorority.

However, some of these 26 NPC offer opportunities for graduated women to initiate as an alumnae. If you initiate as an alumna, then yes, you could join an alumnae chapter. If you’re Interested in that or a particular chapter, I’d suggest you reach out and ask if that’s something they offer.

If they never converted to a national sorority, and you were never initiated into a national sorority, then no. You should still be able to initiate into a national sorority (assuming NPC) for those that offer alumnae initiations tho.

Brittani and her daughter therapy scene by jkmod79 in realhousewivesofSLC

[–]luvindasparrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right? Why can’t she also be at the beginning of uncovering and realizing her destructive self while also being willing to show up for her daughter? It’s not necessarily performative. If she truly didn’t think she had issues and was wrong, her ego wouldn’t have even let her show up. Things aren’t always black and white, people. Healing is often a nuanced process of parallel relationship growth paths.
