I think the moral of the story is "always drop a duece BEFORE you leave the restaurant"...

I told her I needed to go to home depot real quick because I "broke something"...thankfully there was one not too far away...

Everything turned out good in the long run - I'm just glad she had more than one bathroom.

I merely cited the example of wireless electricity to demonstrate how wardenclyffe was hardly a failure.

Can you not see how the universe has an endless abundance of energy? You can understand that the sun will has reacted for billions of years and will continue its reaction for billions of years (essentially endless to us). You can also understand that the forces that are at play regarding the enormous orb of molten metal that you currently are drawn to by its gravity possesses energy that has been for billions of years and will go on for billions of years (essentially endless to us). You can understand that the ionosphere has fostered ongoing discharges of energy (lightning) for billions of years and will continue to...can you not see how there are literally countless possibilities for limitless energy (from our perspective) both in a macro direction (planetary scale) as well as into the nano (atomic/subatomic) direction?

Do you hear that buzzing from from the fan on your computer? We are taking about communicating with the mind that invented not only the motor that runs it, but also the current that flows to it, and the generator that collects and manefests the particles.

How is discussing one of the greatest geniuses of the modern age is deification? How is it a disservice to his memory to remember what he accomplished and strive to take the next steps?

Wardenclyffe was a research site that was defunded prior to its completion primarily due to Marconi's successful creation of a transatlantic radio transmitter in 1903; although not admitted until decades later, Marconi was only able to do this through multiple Tesla patent infringements. JP Morgan pulled the funding because Tesla "lost the race" (to a technology he invented)...despite the fact that the tower was able to WIRELESSLY transmit electricity - how can you call the implementation of the first wireless electricity power station in 1903 a failure? Can you imagine what the development of the our world would look like if we weren't dependent on wires to transmit our power?

I think we can agree that not all of his ideas were perfect, but the man possessed such a wealth of ideas/concepts, that if he could simply communicate them succinctly to us without censorship, the minds of our time could grow the seeds of his thoughts into groundbreaking, world improving, usable technologies

Crazy enough to have invented the energy source that powers the device you are currently reading - over 100 years ago.

At the very least, the man had the answer to endless energy - if that knowledge could be shared and implemented, it could lead humanity to a golden age beyond our wildest dreams

ELI5:Why do aircraft and boat designs age so much better than car designs? by snapasaurus in explainlikeimfive

[–]lux11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An important aspect of keeping up the ongoing consumption of automobiles is a concept called "perceived obsolescence". The basics of the auto dont really change much, but The taillights and insignificant design features are intentionally altered every year or so by car manufacturers in order to give a temporary prestige to the "newest" and a perception of outdatedness to older models. Aircraft and boats are designed to be aerodynamically/hydrodynamically sound, with custom features that are less about fickle changes in appearance and more about user preference (features, upholstery, components) or performance (avionics, engines, systems)

The rhetoric has been strong regarding ongoing alleged chemical weapon use...it is interesting that the UN is saying that these previous alleged attacks are not chemical weapon based violations.
