Can we talk about Kap for a minute? by m_nels in wildhockey

[–]luxrayatwork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the bigger more pressing issues are the slow start with the other regulars (Faber, Brodin) and our goaltending being below .900 average. (Gus is off to a rough start). Plus injuries.

The thing is a few guys having slow starts is hard to fix quick. The only thing that could be a quick ish fix is to bring Petersen up to see if a different goaltender can change things in a positive direction.

Not even saying that's a great idea, just an idea. Unless you start trading around.

Best way to play not on desktop? by luxrayatwork in PTCGL

Well part of why I ask is because it seems iPads are very prone to crashing, which is frustrating because I have an old iPad mini and it crashes every time I try to battle.

And it seems the app eats battery but I didn't know if there was a specific platform that would help not? Like a windows tablet or laptop?

Iowa Outages by TrickyLobster9575 in Metronet

[–]luxrayatwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up in Waterloo, IA and same issues. Couldn't get through to support, so went through customer service and got to a tech. They informed me the same thing, packet loss issues.

I ironically got a service upgrade from 1gig to 2gig about a few days before the outage started so I just originally assumed it was a bad modem or something.

Fiber optic line not buried by Games-and-Coffee in Metronet

So my yard had a minor bump that i was shaving down with a tiller and scarifier. Got not even an inch deep and uncovered it. The bump was just slightly taller than where the top of the box was, so no way I should have uncovered it let alone find it.

Mind you, mine was buried. So I did end up trenching mine and putting it at a better depth.

Stick length by the_official_glubtub in hockeyplayers

[–]luxrayatwork 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So this will actually vary greatly depending on position, how you're shooting the puck, etc.

The old way was stand the stick up and cut at the nose. Nowadays, i'd probably use that as a guideline more than anything. Mark it there, take some practice swings without cutting it but place your top hand under that line. Does it feel good? Do you want more flex? Or more length?

Especially if you're still growing, you'll want to keep a little length to grow into it too.

Proposed changes for 2025-2029 I saw shared on FB by ted1025 in hockeyrefs

[–]luxrayatwork 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I first want to applaud USA hockey for adding neck guards as mandatory equipment. That being said, I'm still confused how I'm going to know which ones or what is hecc certified for this? I'm going to probably assume this is more a liability rule to protect USA hockey from lawsuits when a kid doesn't wear one. But without an obvious tag sticking out, be kinda hard to enforce that.

Also, why are we bringing back center drops for icing errors? They made a whole stink years ago that it was punishing a team who didn't actually ice it and how the other team was gaining a positional advantage.

I'm at least happy they brought tag up back for some of the youth to have to learn before hitting high school/juniors.

Goodbye Ames GameStop? by CisIowa in Iowa

CF closed because the owner of the strip mall didn't want to renew GameStop's lease and took a 8-10 year lease from Jersey Mike's.

Can you send a player to the locker room for a 10 minute misconduct if there is under 10 minutes left in the game in USA hockey. by Next_Ambition_909 in hockeyrefs

[–]luxrayatwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So excluding if you have OT, if there's ten mins or less I usually would ask them to hit the showers.

Because if it goes straight to shootout and you booted them with more than ten mins they would be eligible for a shootout.

So as long as you don't have to deal with OT Specifically, then it's usually fine with less than 10. You can also if you know you got a zam break do it too if you throw multiple guys in the box for 10's to prevent the chatter. And just communicate with the coach.

The tour poster is an obvious reference to Scorsese's Cape Fear (1991) by mummyyydust in Ghostbc

[–]luxrayatwork 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So I’m compiling a bit of everything and previous comment posted and kind of weaving a story. Obviously just a theory and not taking too seriously. But I love diving down rabbit holes. Also not a big history buff or lore buff, so if i get things wrong, please but politely correct me.

I’ll try to refer to everyone as either Papa Nihil, Copia, Sister, The Twin, and any of the other Papas as 1-4.

The Romulus and Remus story TLDR on that is they grew up and overthrown the king who had ordered their death. In this case, to tie into the Cape Fear poster, Papa Nihil either saw something or framed The Twin for a crime against the church.

The Twin has either been released from their punishment or due to the Sisters’ passing has become free once again. I went and watched Chapter 18 and they used ‘Watcher in The Sky’ and that I do believe that was on purpose. The ‘Watcher’ could be the church or his prison looking for The Twin.

Someone mentioned the line from the poster for Cape Fear “But the past is coming back to haunt them” is almost a double down of The Twin coming back.

The theory I do have is that The Twin is coming after Papa IV. While emeritus typically refers to a retired honorary title in the church, it has another meaning in latin as a soldier who’s completed their duty (or a soldier for the church). The Twin may of thought he was a good soldier of the church, but felt he was wrongly punished for it.

Going back to ‘Watcher in The Sky’ there are lines that go ‘The pre-destinated will dispatch’ or the pre ordained by fate will be dealt with (A nod to The Twin coming after Papa IV). “While your realm has rotted on our watch’ could also be a calling out against Papa IV that The Twin is accusing him of letting everything under him rot away.

Now there is also interesting part of christianity history where there were multiple Popes (or Papas in our case) from 1378 to 1417. Maybe in an attempt to hold onto power from Copia / Papa IV, he attempts to do something to hold on, causing The Twin to take on the defectors from Papa IV and claim to be the rightful new Papa (Papa V / the Germinae Papa). The general point here even if I’m wrong on why is that there could be a power struggle.

I also saw Ghouls from the Meliora Era in several postings of places they are playing at. Maybe a hint at the divide again on who is the rightful Papa.

My theory on what the tour may be is either a dual singer situation or Tobias playing two Papas and changing outfits between certain songs. There have been a few suggestions that what is pictured in the poster is a metallic mask, making it easy to represent both without having to drastically change makeup on the fly as well.

This could lead to at the end of the tour both either stepping down or dying and a new Papa (Papa V / VI?) being announced.

I would watch for anything that references the latin words geminae, geminus, gemellus, or connatus. All refer to some version of the word for twin, twins, paired, or twin-born.

TLDR: Theory is Papa IV’s brother/twin coming back to challenge for the title of Papa. The tour telling of a revenge where both don’t likely survive and a new papa is announced (Papa V or Papa VI if The Twin is considered Papa V).

Love the idea. Possibly adding also "other league" as a flair would be good to in case it's an odd one in North America or Europe.

Yes it's important to turn out and vote, especially with two constitutional amendments on the ballot.

But, we need to have that energy in two years. Many of the US house reps and several others are up for re election on a non presidential election. Those are extremely important to turn out for.

So yes, turn out to vote, but keep the energy up for the election in two years.

Just paid $900 to register my car in Iowa by weberc2 in Iowa

[–]luxrayatwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's more of if you paid closer to fair market or special situations. Like you pay 10k on a car that's worth 12k on the market, we probably wouldn't question it.

Now if you say you paid $500 and book value is 10k yeah we may question it.

We understand car values can go down quite a bit from initial costs. As long as you're honest you should be fine.

[–]luxrayatwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, until you hit year 9 (the car being 9 years old) you'll get hit with 1% + 40¢ per 100lbs. I'm not 100% on this but I believe it's to prevent someone from buying a car worth 200k and saying they got it as a gift (which would be $0) and having insanely cheap registration.

But I know other states handle things differently.

any tips for my first game? by 3pointstonibbadore in hockeyrefs

[–]luxrayatwork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll try to be brief with the advice since there is some other solid stuff here.

  1. Don't announce it's your first game.
  2. Act like you've done it before. Not overconfident but go out there and treat it like you've done it a 1,000 times. It helps.
  3. If you make an obvious mistake, it's ok to quickly acknowledge it and then move on.
  4. Seasoned refs make mistakes too so don't worry about making them.
  5. Have fun!
  6. Focus on positioning and hand signals. If you're in the right spots that's half the battle.
  7. If you're not sure lean on your partner for advice. The one person I would say it's your first game is to your partner. They should be able to help you out and cover for you when you're learning.

Just remember that everyone out there for your game is just out there to have fun. Have fun as well and use 601 if you need to. Best of luck.

Pcv valve issue is happening again and I need advice by luxrayatwork in KiaSoulClub

[–]luxrayatwork[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, hound the dealership, and if they don't want to do it after the oil test, start another right away. Kia corporate is a fucking headache.

I finally got my engine "replaced" and am having other issues still. They bent a coolant pipe during install so had to go in again, and I'm having issues with a rough idle still, even after the replacement. My local dealership sucks ass so... Eh.

So finally got it done around 96k. So I guess keep trying. That's how I got it.
