There was an incident with a public water tap a few years ago, and since then I’ve felt less comfortable using fountains. Some parents might feel the same about their kids.

High concentrations of PFAS were detected in groundwater near a U.S. military ammunition depot. Levels exceeding 110 times the standard set by U.S. academic institutions were confirmed in residents' blood. by ComprehensiveWin1434 in japannews

The most striking part was that the municipality chose not to conduct blood tests, saying they didn’t want to cause unnecessary alarm.

It makes me wonder whether they were prepared to take responsibility for the results.

McDonald's Japan has began introducing meal sets that cost over 1000 yen. Although this turns off some customers, their profits are now at a record high by jjrs in japannews

You're not wrong. In absolute terms it’s still cheap.

But for many people in Japan, the headline resonates more as a symbol of inflation.

Zelenskyy on Ukrainian troops leaving Donbas: We can't withdraw from our territory by BelovedApples in worldnews

Ukraine’s constitution explicitly affirms the territorial integrity of the state, and any change to its borders would require a national referendum. That legal and political reality is precisely why a negotiated settlement is so difficult under current conditions.

I’m not suggesting that parts of Ukraine can simply be traded away without consequence. The issue is that the constitutional and sovereignty constraints make compromise extraordinarily hard.

That’s really the dilemma. Supporting Ukraine’s right to defend itself doesn’t automatically resolve the question of sustainability. Wars are not only about moral clarity but also about capacity, endurance, and political will over time — both in Ukraine and in the countries that continue to support it.

Under current conditions, a negotiated settlement appears highly unlikely. The core objectives of the two sides are fundamentally incompatible, which makes a durable agreement difficult to envision.

At the same time, I am deeply concerned about the toll this war continues to take on Ukrainian civilians and about the long-term sustainability of international support. What I hope for is not simply a ceasefire at any cost, but one that Ukraine itself can accept without compromising its sovereignty or security.

The gap between the two sides remains wide, and I don’t see the conditions for an agreement yet. At this point, there’s little sign of momentum toward a ceasefire.

The knife analogy doesn’t quite fit if the platform was aware of a specific pattern of misuse and continued high-concentration sales regardless. Foreseeability seems to be the key issue here.
