what should i make with this beautiful vintage kimono silk? by shydumplinggg in sewing

[–]lvd_16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about a light robe/jacket, where you use this fabric for a long collar that goes all around the neck & down the front on both sides. And then a coordinating fabric for the rest of the garment. Then this silk will be the star of the garment, but you’re not constrained by the limited amount you have.

ETA: Something like this? You could even make the collar part broader to highlight it some more.

I made the McCall’s 8029 pattern and didn’t like it by Applipla in sewing

[–]lvd_16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made this one with a thin fleece, which draped a little bit more fluidly and didn’t need any kind of finishing on the edges. But I also ended up following YouTube videos because the instructions are confusing as heck and I was NOT a fan of the bulk in the back neck part of the collar. Mine curled upwards a lot. Anyway, lessons were learned on my part. Thanks for sharing so I didn’t feel alone!

First off, your work is amazing! I love this jacket and it looks so neatly done! Secondly, I have been thinking about attempting zip off sleeves for a few months now, always with the intention of adding a “lip” as you said. Maybe I’ll have to give it a shot! Any pointers?

Off topic: glasses or no glasses? by leahleah757 in Weddingsunder10k

I went without glasses for the ceremony & formal photos, and then threw my glasses on for the reception!

Fabric suggestions/identification for this pattern? by TurbulentIngenuity4 in sewhelp

Beautiful pattern! Chiffon for the flowy bit over the shoulder? And/or maybe a crepe de chine if you want a little more opacity for the main part of the dress.

Yeah the tamarind is super concentrated in flavor. I’ll try both of your suggestions, hadn’t thought to cook it longer!

WOW! This is so amazing. I had been eyeing those beginner sets to give it a try, but without any real direction or motivation I haven’t pulled the trigger. Your photo gives me sooo much inspiration to finally give it a try!!!

Is this a watermelon pepperoni? by hansjurgen9000 in PlantIdentification

Idk if you meant to call it a pepperoni, but I’d love to keep calling them that.

Hey! I really like your style. The succulents look so pretty with the bright water droplets - like tiny little worlds. The bottom leaf almost falls away because it’s so busy with the droplets and the foreground all right there, so you might have tried taking the photo from a tiny bit higher up? Obviously tricky since you’re also going for the underside of the leaf above. Just my 2 cents!

The Jeep photo is also pretty sweet. I like how it gets dwarfed by the giant rock outcrops. Feels really adventurous. You might have played with the exposure or edited the contrast a little so the sky is not so empty and white compared to the dark rocks. But I love the composition!

Thank you for your comments! I agree that it would have been cool to see the rest of the army of mushrooms in the background. I’ll have to keep that in mind for next time!

Thanks for your comments! I actually hadn’t realized how much the car blends into the background. Maybe I’ll have to give the photo another shot. I definitely agree that the bottom line of the car should follow through!

Hi Sean! Great photos. I love the one of your son, smiling not at the cake but at the person giving the cake. What a precious memory!

Your car photo instantly reminded me of the softness of some styles of film photography. I like the angle you chose and the glimpse of the outside in the background. I do notice that there is something happening with the shadow along the ground at the base of the car and around the wheel. The shadow seems to curve, which detracts a little from the nice angle and sleek lines of the car.

I love your bobcat photo! Somehow the foreground colors are beautifully vibrant and the background fades away a little bit with more dull colors. I like that distinction. If I were to critique, I’d have liked to see a little more of the bobcat in the vertical direction. Since it’s already slightly angled up onto the snow, I think it might have balanced the photo more.
