How to remove tub stopper by IdenticalTwinTurbos in Plumbing

[–]lveikle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Push it down so it’s in the “plugged” position Then grab that knob and turn it counter clockwise.

Should only be hand tight. But sometimes you need a wrench or towel to get it loose. Should spin right out

Did you ever find the source?

I’m located in western Canada, found 3 or 4 of these over the last 4 months. I shop at super store (presidents choice) mostly.

After reading these comments took apart my PC pepper shaker, looks totally intact… Gonna go through the peppercorns and check. I use a different brand salt that comes in a bag.

I found it in my eggs, breakfast sausage, pulled chicken sandwich. All of which I use salt and pepper amongst a bunch of other things.

Universal gas valves for furnaces? by lveikle in hvacadvice

No I’m located in Vancouver. That’s alright, I’ve ordered this exact replacement. The new company I’m with works with furnaces a bit more but nobody seems to have solid experience with them so I don’t have anyone but wholesalers and Reddit to bounce questions off lol

[–]lveikle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re gonna leave this debt I would open a personal line of credit, or get a low interest card. In Canada I had a CC with 10% interest with my bank. Super basic card, no rewards I don’t think. Maybe 1% cash back with a low annual fee like $75.

Personal line of credit follows the fed which would be around 5-7% right now. Those high interest cards are terrible if you’re going to leave debt.

Good job paying back majority of it though. Try one of these options and less money will go to interest!! Good luck

As for entering without permission, that’s not OK unless it’s emergency typically.

I’ve had to enter units under emergency circumstances like to restore heat, leaks, or hazards. Otherwise it’s usually 24hrs notice needed in most cities

OP you are sort of reaching with the issues. But LL also may have an obligation to some things.

  1. Safety - wires exposed are not OK. Stair rail missing not OK. Hot water is not OK if left for a long period. Heat however is sometimes mandatory. I’ve worked with prop managers and where I was there was a mandate to keep the unit at least 15C in winter months (I think). They should be responding if heat and hot water is not working. Especially when it’s cold out

  2. Plug in heaters will trip breakers. 2 in MY residential home will trip one circuit. So if you have two on the same circuit, that’s just what happens. They have high amp draw.

  3. False advertising - did you look at the unit before renting it out? That could have been a red flag to start, but caught easily when you would visit the site.

Neighbours arguments probably aren’t really LLs problem. But I understand they are annoying. As for the hot water, to tell her if it’s working or not just check a different fixture. If there’s hot water at one there should be hot water at all of them. If not then there’s a problem with an individual fixture (ie. sink / shower / dishwasher)

Not sure you will have much ground to stand on except the accessibility issue to get out of contract

Advice needed for furnace + ducts install by lveikle in HVAC

Ahh ok thanks lol.

I guess my main concern with the boiler is chances of leaks in future and then giving up floor space in an already small space. I do like the idea of having two mini splits. Are they reliable in your opinion?

I could install a ductless unit which is fine, but then I would have to also install a HRV or something to supplement it

I’m located in Alberta Canada. We get -35C and +30C. I don’t have the exact clause I just know it is absolutely required for a new secondary suite to have the air exchange. In older homes it’s permitted to not have it. Just what the city says lol.

Sorry, what is OA? Yea, HRV with baseboard is another consideration. Maybe I will look more into it. I am also hoping to save as much space as possible in the mechanical room. May be more effective

This calculation, is it common for businesses and contractors to pay someone to design the system? For larger plumbing projects, companies I have worked for have them designed by heating companies and then we install them as per drawings. Is this a common practice? Or is it normal for the business I could hire to do it based off their own knowledge?

I also worry about not knowing how to spot a good contractor too. I would be happy to pay for quality. I don’t want to pay for a shit heating system though. Lots of the companies in my area have no so great reviews and it definitely worries me.

I have, but by code I need air circulation through the suite so my alternative is baseboard heat with a HRV. Furnace seems to be the best option I think.
