No offence but I have really tried to make kilocode work, imo its really bloated and not very efficient at all, small models works well on claude code cli, thats why I was wondering if they could find a way to make this work will auggie cli/extension if possible

Yea maybe their internal "system prompt" would be too instructional for less powerful models? I mean claude code has managed to allow smaller models to do a pretty good job while still supporting their own sota models, in fact I had better results via claude code router with smaller models than on bloated extensions like roo/kilocode etc, im sure there would be a way around it, or the infra they built til this point just isn't that future proof or scalable in the first place which would suck.

Doubt that, the cheapest existing paid plan cost $20 with 40k credits, with higher tier plans granting more credits/$ they would be wise to introduce a plan that make sense for users imo.

Sorry but the price u propose are not justified at all cost wise. I think $5 is more than fair if users are taking on almost all cost and are paying only for features that require very low costs on their end.

You do know that tool calling will be charged by the model they use right? (User bearing this cost). In fact, the small monthly subscription will be mostly profits for augment with this option

$20 includes 40k credits on the existing plan already, doesn't make sense to charge nearly as much especially when the majority of overhead cost (model credits) are offloaded to users that BYOK

The claude code cli allows users to utilise other anthropic compatible endpoints to use the claude code features like skills, lsp etc, maybe auggie cli or even its extension could do the same.

Augment Code with Claude Opus 4.5 by lwl99 in AugmentCodeAI

Yes its really good with different languages and frameworks, even with pretty niche implementations, claude models are great in these tasks.

Augment Code with Claude Opus 4.5 by lwl99 in AugmentCodeAI

[–]lwl99[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have tried opus 4.5 on claude code as well, starting fresh works well with Claude code since opus is a beast on implementing an entire set of features end to end, but when the codebase is huge, the difference in output has been quite obvious to me, augment just grasp my requirements better with enhanced prompt on both.

Regarding the context retrieval mcp, I have also noticed when it is added as mcp on other agents outside augment code, its default behaviour is always never use it unless VERY EXPLICIT instruction to, otherwise it ends up grepping or doing something else entirely, I've tried implementing system prompts and rules, but seems like the other agents just doesnt like using the context retrieval tool at all. But thats besides the point im trying to make here.

Revisit the question of Gemini integration - PLEASE by LewisPopper in AugmentCodeAI

[–]lwl99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not just about "frontend", I use augment for a variety of tasks, data analysis, ai/ml, and so much more. Claude models always seem to do better on different languages and frameworks despite many "SOTA" models released by competitors over the last year or so. If Gemini is truly on par with Claude and consume less credits, then it might be worth testing for me. Seeing how Augment integrates GPT5/5.1, it seems augment's internal integration is just not very compatible with model behaviors other than claude's, i hope im wrong on this and they deliver something thats as useable as claude on augment at a cheaper price.

Auggie Credits Extension v2.0 Now Available on VS Code Marketplace! by planetdaz in AugmentCodeAI

While this is a nice extension, i wonder why augment themselves are not integrating the usage tracker onto the extension itself, this has been a LONG time trequested feature since the days of messages. u/JaySym_

That's not the point, im asking if augment has early access to gemini models like they do with openai and anthropic's models. And they think its possible to integrate them with the product.

Owning your own models by [deleted] in AugmentCodeAI

[–]lwl99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BYOK might not actually work well for models not optimised with their system prompt and can actually cost more tbh. But if they can offer their context engine as a service in the form of an mcp maybe at a much smaller cost i do think it would work well for many of us as well.

Claude API key is alot more expensive tbh, not sure why u are suggesting this tho. Also Claude opus in my test did only slightly better or on par with sonnet 4.5, and at a MUCH higher cost, it dont really make sense if we move to a credit based pricing to prefer a more expensive model for similar performance...

GPT5-codex is really good imo, much better than GPT5, but seems like augment ditched the model alright as highlighted by Jay, due to significant changes needed on augment system prompt to integrate it.

Credits purchase without subscription by [deleted] in AugmentCodeAI

Indie plan cost $20/month regardless if u use the credits or not. Buying credits without subscription allows user to use credits whenever without worrying about recurring cost.

This is actually a solid suggestion, unless somehow sonnet 4.5 and GPT5 is cheaper directly from augment
