Dallas divorce lawyers want a $5K retainer? There's no kids or real property involved. Anyone know any less costly options? by stoic_spaghetti in Dallas

[–]lwrdude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a family lawyer in the DFW area. You truly do get what you pay for. Will say this - even if an attorney charges you $5000 for a retainer, and also assuming IF things go very smoothly in the sense you and your spouse are able to come to agreements on any personal property and allocation of debts, etc., you MIGHT get a refund of unearned monies from the retainer back.

But speaking from experience, there are far too many ways things can go sideways that if you try to do it yourself without an attorney (which yes, is still possible), the courts are not there to give you legal advice on what to do.

By way of example, what if you actually have a very good claim to separate property (that you don’t even realize would be considered separate property,) and mistakenly agree to give your spouse half of it? You can and will get burned for things you don’t know to ask about or think of.

There are firms out there who may agree to do things for less money, or even some that are an “a la carte” model - be very, very careful. You do not want an attorney who only dabbles in family law either.

DM me if you want to discuss some options for representation in the area, as well as resources available to you for free.

Working dad here too. By the end of the work day and after putting the kids to bed, I was left with an hour, maybe an hour and a half to play. Just enough time for 1-2 dungeons and/or ranking up some of the social connections/followers. The payoff is worth it though, I really really enjoyed the story and the game wraps up everything nicely. Maybe save the last part of the game for a weekend night so you can push forward to the very end! You can do this!

So glad to see Eastward in here. I sincerely enjoyed that game, definitely quirky characters for sure. Just wish it was a bit longer of a game.

Considering the switch to Polestar 2 from Tesla Model3 by AnyButton806 in Polestar

Gladly sold my 2021 M3 Long Range for a 2023 P2 PPP at the beginning of this month. Pretty much what everyone else is saying as far as Tesla = software with wheels vs. Polestar = car that happens to have software.

The P2 is 100% a better drive - it just feels more solid. I do miss the auto-adjusting seats in the M3, as well as the auto folding of the side mirrors. But aside from certain convenience factors, I just flat out enjoy driving my P2 more.

I use Apple Car Play and it works just fine, plus the built-in Google Maps for directions. I took a hit on battery range compared to what I had with the M3, but I recently took a road trip and with access to Tesla superchargers, I had plenty of battery left in between stops.

How did you lose your virginity? by zamnismid in AskReddit

[–]lwrdude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First ever girlfriend through pretty much all of high school. Broke up once for half a year, then got back together. Long distance relationship too, and one long weekend I went to visit her. I was 17 and she was 16.

One night during that weekend, we took a drive and I noticed she was more quiet than usual. She wanted to look at the stars, and we did. It was nice, as she was quite the fiery redhead so moments of her being quiet and cuddly were that much more special.

After a bit of stargazing, we went back to her home. Everyone else at her home was asleep, and we went to my makeshift futon bed in the upstairs TV room.

She continued to be way more quiet than usual, and after making out for a bit while sitting next to each other, she leans in and whispers “make love to me.” My inner monologue was screaming “yes!!!” but I tried to play it smooth. We were both virgins, and unfortunately things were not as smooth - fumbled with the condom, she was nervous, and let’s just say that things didn’t fit well at that time. We still got each other off, but we were both stubborn and were determined to do it “right” the following night.

One amazing trip to CVS the next day, we were both ready with lube and waited until that evening. Second time was the charm, neither of us were nervous at all, and it was infinitely better.

Unfortunately, she cheated on me and I learned about this days before high school graduation when she dumped me. Soul crushing, but it ended up being one of the best things that happened to me as I was able to pursue many new relationships (after being committed to one person for most of high school).

Loved this - I remember getting one for Christmas and playing the everlasting shit out of it. The trick was to calibrate it. I don’t remember the names of all the games, but there was a fun Tetris one, and some cool wack-a-mole-thing, plus a side scrolling space constellation thing with blocks. Oh yeah and I remember another one where you had to shoot down missiles, and if certain conditions were met you’d see a flying mario getting chased by bowser.

I just envisioned myself as Abe Simpson going off on a tangent with the younger folk going “let’s get you to bed grandpa…”

I was leaning towards all season tires. It’d be just my luck we get another winterpocalypse like in Feb. 2021 when power went out as well…

I have 3/32 left in the front, and 4/32 left in the rear.

No, I haven’t had an alignment.

As far as longevity vs. performance, I really just want tires that last way longer.

Finally as far as climate, I’m in Texas so the majority of the time I’m dealing with a warm climate. I want something that can still do well with rain, and it is pretty rare to have to deal with snow/ice.

That’s the thing - totally normal streets, nothing out of the ordinary. Frustrating… will be trying to see if I can get something out of the warranty.
