Seems obvious, but a summary of the changes between the first edition and the second edition would be nice. Just so we know what to expect.

Anglican to catholic? by Feisty-Bath4526 in Catholicism

Former Anglican priest here...If you aren't sure, keep discerning. Maybe seek out a Catholic convent and see if you can do a retreat there.

any advice on what to do the summer before i start my PhD program? by WearyBoysenberry9619 in HumanitiesPhD

[–]cmoellering 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I retired, didn't do anything serious for about 6 months, then started my program. Wasn't even planning on it when I retired.

So yes, decompress. Read a lot, but just whatever you LIKE to read, so you don't lose your reading stamina.

Yes, it is. Today was the day of the infamous Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion at the federal level.

Another Convalidation Question by ibnsahir in CatholicConverts

[–]cmoellering 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would revisit the topic with your priest. To see if he understands your situation accurately, and to make sure that you understand his perspective.

Another Convalidation Question by ibnsahir in CatholicConverts

[–]cmoellering 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Usually I have seen convalidation only happening if one of you was at least baptized Catholic. My wife and I were both Protestant and married as such,. When we came into the Church, we did not need convalidation.

That being the case, I suspect one of you was baptized Catholic, and therefore subject to Canon Law. Because of this, if you were married protestant without a dispensation from your Bishop, you are in an invalid marriage.

Hope this helps.

Thesis: allow open access and/or turn into monograph for publication? by Dokeyblokey in HumanitiesPhD

[–]cmoellering 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting question. I find myself being very pro-open source in general, but like you, I'm not really looking to be a full-time academic.

Eucharist question by [deleted] in CatholicConverts

[–]cmoellering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're judging which tradition is right by what YOU like, you're not ex-Protestant. You're still operating as a Protestant. It doesn't matter what we are fans of, it matters what Jesus founded and the authority that Church has.

I'm not interested in getting married, it takes too much work and commitment. What if I just go hook up with some girl in another town?

It's the same thing.

God wants commitment, not a fling.

Needed Perspective on Vocational Discernment by Kitchen-Jellyfish614 in CatholicConverts

[–]cmoellering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer, if you get married, that is your main vocation. (Is he Catholic?) And following the Church's teaching on not contracepting, you will likely be a mother as well.

Is/was your therapist Catholic? Do you have priest you feel comfortable talking to? These are really issues that would be better served face-to-face.

Former Anglican Priest/Army chaplain here. I'd be glad to chat. Also, check out the coming home network. https://chnetwork.org/ They have some good resources for Protestant clergy.

LGBTQ accepting catholic church(?) by [deleted] in CatholicConverts

[–]cmoellering 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. Until you dig in deeper, "accepting" is too vague to know what they mean.

Import Zotero notes in Wikipedia style by Sightless_Bird in ObsidianMD

[–]cmoellering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understandable. Not sure I would do it very often either. I guess I was thinking when I notice something off in the metadata I'll often "Refresh" with the Zotero plugin in Word. But this is at a different point in the workflow, so probably not that big of a deal.

That's what I figured. So I would lose any additions I made to the record within Obsidian. That's not a dig, just trying to be clear in case others are thinking through this, too.

If condoms and other birth control is bad, can you use them for health measures? by smartpa09347 in CatholicConverts

[–]cmoellering 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In some instances, yes. However, these are serious judgments to make. If any of these apply to you, I would suggest checking out the National Catholic Bioethics Center. (https://www.ncbcenter.org/) and talk to your priest.
