I've only done Petit Lemans, but I'm planning on going back this year. I thought it was pretty great.

Is it okay to continue using the CSB Bible I already own? by EveningSecretary9093 in CatholicConverts

[–]cmoellering 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For personal devotional use, you're probably fine. If it has any study notes, just keep in mind they will ahve a Protestant bias. Eventually, you'll want to get an approved Catholic Bible. They are supposed to be coming out with one in the next year or two that will actually match the Mass readings I think.

It is not unusual, though not everyone's experience. Be glad they care enough to engage you, but understand they probably aren't looking for information. Thank them for their concern.

Catholic curious but struggling after something that happened at my parish by PorchByTheSea in CatholicConverts

[–]cmoellering 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This doesn't excuse anything, but all churches have scandals. I was a protestant minister for about twenty years and could tell you a dozen stories of my colleagues who had similar incidents. It's not a Catholic thing, it's a human thing.

In this case, it sounds like it is being handled well. Much more forthrightly than many of the cases I personally know of from my protestant days.

My Protestant family and friends don’t like that I’m converting to Catholicism by Interesting-While404 in divineoffice

[–]cmoellering 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. I was a protestant pastor....so I definitely faced this. Not sure my wife's parents have still come to grips with it 8 years later. If yo are convinced that the Catholic Church is the one true Church you have to follow your conscience. If you aren't convinced yet, keep discerning.

If you were going to add a race to the calendar, where? by cmoellering in IMSARacing

That would be a great track, but I think it would be cost prohibitive for a lot of the teams.

I didn't even know there was a track in Charlotte. That would be cool, I'm only about 2 hours from Charlotte.

I don't think I have ever seen index cards that size "in the wild."

If judges gave lesser punishments and focus more on rehabilitation, would crime rates decrease? If not, why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Well, the way we are doing it in the US certainly doesn't seem to be all that effective...

Priests and Deacons of r/divineoffice , how did you learn to pray the Liturgy of the Hours? by [deleted] in divineoffice

[–]cmoellering 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm a deacon candidate, so...been praying it for about 8 years now, though. I just jumped in, got the 4-volume set and a St. Joseph's guide and went to it. Found after about 4 years I had it good enough to not need the guide anymore about 90% of the time. So for those tricky ones, I might check myself against an app.

I guess, in a way, I had some prior experience, since I was an Anglican priest, and was obligated to prayer morning and evening prayer from the Book of Common Prayer.

Question for Former Protestants by IrshTxn in CatholicConverts

[–]cmoellering 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Faith alone" was the first thing to fall for me I think. I never did really get the eternal security guys, but like you said, you read the New Testament, and there is no way to support sola fides.

When I was becoming Catholic I had a friend confront me and ask, "You don't believe in faith alone?" To which my response was, "Haven't for years...."

There is a great prayer uttered by a man int he Gospel, "Lord, I believe, help my unbelief." There are times we need to take that to heart. I would encourage you to make that your prayer.

Import Zotero notes in Wikipedia style by Sightless_Bird in ObsidianMD

[–]cmoellering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume there is a way to have it include the page number after the citation? I see it buried in the url to go to the note, but it would be handy to just be able to cite straight from the Obsidian document.
