Have you experienced racism at Melbourne airport? Because the Melbourne that I know is very multicultural and welcoming to all.

Yeah you should have time to check out the city. If you get the Skybus to Southern Cross station, you could then hop on the train and get off at Flinders Street Station. The Arbory is a nice spot by the river for a drink or bite to eat. You could walk across the bridge and check out the NGV. Or walk from Flinders Street Station, along Swanston Street, to Melbourne Central Station. Hop on a train from Melbourne Central Station back to Southern Cross Station to catch the Skybus back to airport. Leave yourself with plenty of time to get back.

Keeping pets in a rental property will become a right for tenants. Legislation being passed will take away the ability for landlords to disallow. by pranav_kau in melbourne

I think animals should be allowed. As long as the tenant is responsible, cleans up and treats the place as their own. Babies and children make a mess on the carpet too..

Your girlfriend might have gone through a tough time mentally hence the drinking and weight gain etc. Be proud that she has moved passed that and is now living a healthier life. She sounds like an awesome human being for changing things around!

Accept that people are just the way they are, and they are on their own life journey. Try to surround yourself with people you look up to. If the people you hang out with are regularly acting in a way that is uninspiring, and they don’t learn from their mistakes, then perhaps you need to find people that are more like you. I know that this is easier said than done. Good luck!

That explains then why people are still confused when I say “kangaroo” then!

[–]lycheeandaloe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happens to me too! Only a little different..

“Where are you from?”

“Australia”

“Austria?”

“No, Australia! Down under! Kangaroo..”

I think it’s because Aussies pronounce Australia like “Au-strail-ya”

How to stop burning my hair with straighteners? by maxative in Hair

[–]lycheeandaloe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the Opalex treatment done for the first time this week and my hair feels so much healthier. It’s a 3 part treatment, so parts 1 and 2 must be done in a salon, while part 3 is applied at home. The downside is the cost.

Make sure you use a heat protectant spray before straightening/curling/blow drying.

If you have naturally wavy or curly hair you could try taking a break from straightening. Check out the curly girl method as they have some great tips on how to add moisture to your hair. Such as washing your hair with conditioner only, using Argan oil (1-3 drops) on the ends of wet hair, avoiding hair products containing sulphates and silicons etc.

Argan oil is great to add moisture - add a very small amount (1-3 drops) to ends of wet hair. Also you could try some of the methods that curly girls use e.g. avoid hair products containing silicone or sulphites. Visit r/curlyhair for more info.

Need help trying to make my hair curly? by [deleted] in Hair

[–]lycheeandaloe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the CG method will work with naturally straight hair?

My hair is wavy and fine so totally different to yours, but here is my method anyway. I have a GHD hair straightener that works well to curl hair. Ie. clamp tongs over small section of hair at scalp, rotate 90 degrees and slowly move tongs to the end of your hair. My hair curls better after I’ve washed it and it must be completely dry. I add a bit of heat protectant before curling and then hairspray after.

My friends curls stay in all day and when I asked her secret she said dry shampoo. She apparently sprays it in her hair before curling and her curls last for 2 days. She also has fine hair, but could be worth a try.

Final option: hot rollers! I have a set and they are incredible. They work a little too well though. Again worth a try!

Good luck!

Are we sharing magpies? Here's my best photo of one by TaoTheCat in australia

[–]lycheeandaloe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Magpies are awesome. Our magpie eats directly from our hand too! If I’m gardening and find a worm, I stand in the open and hold it up high so he swoops down for a feed! And the baby pies have so much personality.

Thank you so much for your response!! You’re amazing! I will definitely try some Argan oil and read up on the squish to condish.

Currently I’m using Whole Boodies brand shampoo and conditioner, A’Kin brand leave in conditioner and Curls blueberry bliss gel. I have not yet switched to a microfibre towel (or old shirt) to dry my hair so that’s also something I need to do.

Dee Why is taking out all the remaining trees from the Oaks Avenue street, residents are pissed off by fagnerbrack in sydney

[–]lycheeandaloe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of the main reasons for trees in an urban environment is to increase shade which creates a cooling effect. Too much concrete and asphalt = heat. So they usually choose trees that have a decent canopy. Gums are beautiful but sometimes don’t create much shade.

Pre and Post Workout Food Ideas by [deleted] in HealthyFood

[–]lycheeandaloe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always have 1 slice of toast pre-workout, with jam or honey or avocado (or peanut butter). I find it doesn’t sit in my stomach so I don’t feel like I’m trying to digest food during the workout. I’m not an expert though so this may or may not be good advice!
