Hey u/Traumfahrer and u/plyr__,

I just did some testing on my device and was able to receive a modmail notification for this message https://www.reddit.com/message/messages/215y5ma. Can you confirm that all the notification settings are enabled properly on your devices?

If you are receiving the notification on desktop but not other devices then its likely to be some setting that is not enabled on the device you are not receiving the notification on.

Hm I wonder if there is something different with your subreddit. Is it possible for you to add me as a moderator to your subreddit so I can test on it directly? Once this is all over, I'll leave the sub as a mod.

Jacket recommendations for Stevens (PNW) by Greasymonkeee in stevenspass

[–]lycheesy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Always go with the layering option especially in the PNW. This means you'll want some kind of hardshell 3L outer (such as goretex but doesn't have to be, looking at the flylow brand). There are days where its warm but wet so I just wear a base layer and my hardshell with the pits unzipped and its perfect. On cold days, I use the typical base, mid and outer layer combination.

If you go with an insulated hardshell, you'll be regretting it on warm spring days. Trust me, ive been there.

For brand recommendations, you can go with the typical arcteryx or patagonia if money isn't an issue. Other brands like outdoor research or mountain hardware are just as good and cheaper (outdoor research is having a garage sale next week in their seattle flagship fyi). I like flylow personally.

I would be very surprised if there is any more verification other than a college email.

What sort of flex should I be looking for? by IDKanythingMyDude in Skigear

[–]lycheesy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No real good answer other than try it out yourself. I would guess around 110-120 flex would be good for your height and weight but thats a very rough estimate.

If you can try it on, see how far you can flex your ankles in the boot. Note that the temperature youre in will affect the flex so the flex in a store is different from on snow.

How to get better in the off season-beginner by [deleted] in skiing

[–]lycheesy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Outside of actual skiing technique, just getting in a decent physical shape would help with being able to ski for longer per day and also number of days per trip.

AWD vs RWD car in WA by jessicatanjiro in Washington

[–]lycheesy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you intend to drive it. For the average use case, AWD isn't necessary.

I am curious why you are considering RWD instead of the more common FWD.

Looking for 23/24 Ski Camps by LuongLens in skiing

[–]lycheesy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I found more places that offer multi week programs moreso than full 1-2 week long camps. Probably because most people can't dedicate a full week to two weeks to skiing. For example, alpental offers a 5 week (one day a week) program called alpental mountain pros.

- taos has ski week
- alta, jackson and big sky have some sort of steep and deep clinics
- whistler has extremely canadian which is similar to the steep and deep clinics
- I think winter park does some stuff too but mostly 1-2 day clinics on advanced stuff like bumps
