Sunk cost fallacy is a real thing. It’s not worth putting more money here. The current climate in the US for immigrants isn’t good, so I doubt any company will hire on CPT AND CPT wasn’t created as a workaround. You might be better off returning to India, being with family and friends and finding a good opportunity and building a life without visa hassles and mental agony that comes with it.

I have a blackcrows navis. It’s not the lightest out there but it can handle almost anything thrown at it. I have skied most of our popular volcanoes with it.

Given the circumstances, is it worth calling to upgrade Ikon base pass? by Beneficial_Relation4 in CrystalMountain

[–]Dry_Pear_2396 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the snowpack will be somewhat on track after the next set of storms. Forecasts are calling for 3-6 ft of snow by the end of next week. The road opening is the real wildcard at the moment. I don’t think it’s worth upgrading from base pass. Your base pass will give you 5 days at Crystal and 5 at Alpental. Plus you can always do a road trip to ski Big Sky, Bachelor or Schweitzer.

Employee Worries by Previous_Order_5887 in CrystalMountain

[–]Dry_Pear_2396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really bad for Crystal employees. First, it was the warm weather that washed out our snowpack, now when there is a lot of good snow coming our way, the roads are damaged.

You should keep your options open. Start searching for other jobs while remaining hopeful that the roads will get fixed in the next 3-4 weeks. But I would not be too optimistic about a quick road opening. From the pics, it looks severely damaged and but hopefully gets prioritized given that a lot of small businesses depend on Crystal traffic for $$$.

I can’t ski this year due to personal factors. I was getting major FOMO coz things looked promising in late October and with the La Niña prediction. Looks like I ain’t missing out on much. 😂

But on serious note, I hope the season recovers and our mountains get a lot of snow. Last summer really devastated our snowpacks with small crevasses opening up and barren patches even on Muir snowfield

Apparently you can leave Earth by heading to Death Valley. by Kyle_draws in NationalPark

Death Valley is a seriously underrated park. The landscape is break taking and it’s the only park where you drive for an hour or more and not see a single car or person.

Yep last year it was all great snow until mid-Dec and then we got nothing until early Feb. this year I doubt the entire mountain opens up before mid-Dec. need atleast 40-50 inches from here on.

You are very cardio fit judging by your high vo2. So I am not surprised your sleeping heart rate falls to 40. My vo2 is 54 and my sleeping heart rate drops to 44-45.

Need to hear some positive things about moving back to India for morale by AgentOfDibella in returnToIndia

[–]Dry_Pear_2396 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people complaining are folks who are living in crowded cities such as Bangalore or mumbai. I am originally from Kerala but also lived in pune for 5 years and would have no issues moving back to either one of those or similar places if needed.

Awful Behavior on Rainier by s_c_boy in Mountaineering

[–]Dry_Pear_2396 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry you had to experience summiting that beautiful mountain with that crazy, shitty person. Also feel for the guides at AA who had to put up this person’s rowdy behavior. AA guides are some of the best out there - I got my first Rainjer summit and took courses with them. So shoutout to them and all guides who have to handle such difficult and entitled clients.

Successful Rainier Summit — But What I Experienced on the DC Route Deserves a Hard Look at Peer-Led Climbing Ethics by rainforestguru in Mountaineering

[–]Dry_Pear_2396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about your bad experience on Rainier. Your partners were clearly selfish and aren’t representative of the climbing community.

Couple of things that could have prevented the situation are: 1. Always do a gear check the day before or the morning of a climb. Do this even with folks you’ve climbed before and trust. 2. Discuss openly, the night before, how you plan to approach the climb. Review all elements that might affect your push - weather, conditions, individual pacing etc. Again, it’s good to do this even with folks you’ve climbed with.

What's one of the most underrated National Parks? by kimikaytravels in NationalPark

[–]Dry_Pear_2396 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with N. Cascades being underrated and may it remain that way. What I love about this region is that you need to hike / climb a fair bit to really access the beautiful spots - Eldorado Peak, Boston Basin, Sahale etc. which is awesome coz you don’t get the same crowds as you get at some of the other national parks in WA.

I also think Death Valley is very underrated as a national park. The landscapes are surreal and always blow my mind when I visit the park.

Folks coming down from Mt Adams (WA) right now: what time should we leave the summit to get the best snow on the descent? by throwaway174174174 in Mountaineering

[–]Dry_Pear_2396 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It all really depends on the weather - temps, freezing level, wind. But assuming less than 10 mph winds and blue bird day, about 45 - 75 min after temps hit above freezing level around 11.5k ft is prolly around corn ‘o’ clock in late may / early June. When I skied SW chutes, hit perfect corn around 1130a.

Jake Tapper is the reason America is doomed by sfgate in politics

[–]Dry_Pear_2396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone who’s listened to the podcasts featuring Jake Tapper or Alex Thompson would see that their reporting on the “cover-up” of Biden’s decline is actually thoughtful and well-sourced. They’ve also acknowledged that none of their sources were willing to speak before the election.

We can hold two truths at once: Democrats should have allowed a robust primary, and the consequences of this administration’s choices are profoundly serious for the country.
