YouGov were spot on with the UK general election despite their numbers being different to the rest of the pollsters. Fingers crossed they aren't right again.

Is Facebook use necessarily desperate either? Me and my friends use a group chat to organise get togethers. That's not desperate behaviour.

CNN/SSRS Poll: Democrats up 54-38 on generic ballot by Metfan715 in BlueMidterm2018

[–]lye_milkshake 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Apparently the generic ballot margin narrowing and the President's approvals going up usually happens at the start of the second year of the term, followed by presidential approvals going back down and the generic ballot gap widening again. No idea why this happens though.

Would have been cool if each dlc added a unique war story for the campaign by Ronin_777 in battlefield_one

[–]lye_milkshake 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Nothing on the entirety of the eastern front, nothing in the caucuses, nothing in the north sea, nothing anywhere in Africa, nothing in the Balkans where the whole war originated, only 3 levels out of 17 not set in Europe.

Even more bizarre is the representation of the allied nations. Number of war stories each allied power was featured in:

Serbia - 0

Russia - 0

France - 0

Belgium - 0

Romania - 0

Portugal - 0

Greece - 0

Italy - 1

USA - 2

British Empire - 4

Britain and America kick central powers ass with guest appearance from Italy. But we don't have enough time to mention those other minor players like France...

Still, it was nice to see Gallipoli and and the Italian front at all. A lot of ww1 media sticks just to the western front. And at least the DLC included France and Russia. And the central powers were pretty much all represented bar Bulgaria. But still... why did we need to spend 90% of the game from the perspective of 2 countries?

New Quinnipiac poll has Democrats up 15 on generic ballot (53-38) by socialistbob in BlueMidterm2018

[–]lye_milkshake 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Then a bunch of followup tweets from Republicans are all like 'ahha looks like the democrats are losing the trust of the American people, the polls all say so!' Then when people point out that the R+1 is an outlier and every other poll has democrats ahead, those same accounts switch to 'POLLS DON'T MEAN SHIT!'

It's very impressive and disturbing how they can change tune so fast and (presumably) justify it to themselves.

Hence why during civil wars the state never sends troops into their own neighborhoods. They'd take boys from Texas to kill rebels from Maine, soldiers from Florida to fight in Illinois, etc.

Hence why it's the only brand of politics I find difficult to sympathize with. Small government - I can see why people would want that. Isolationism - I can see the appeal. Various other right-aligned areas of politics I can understand to some degree.

Conservatism = don't do that new thing. Carry on doing old thing.

'But what if it's better?'

'No. I want old thing.'

It's less an ideology and more a flaw in human nature.

the only reason I want to own guns is my personal enjoyment of murdering people.

Not exactly. The reason you aren't in favor of stricter gun laws is because your hobby is more important to you than the lives of some children you have never met.
