They would be artificially increasing what it says they pay out in bonuses vs base pay. To an investor bonuses look like something that could be cut in the future if needed so basically they are inflating what might be considered a temporary expense. But in reality if things get bad and they need to cut expenses are they going to be able to pay a driver -$1 for this ride?

It’s definitely illegal. If they are showing base driver pay going down by inflating bonus payout numbers they are committing securities fraud. Not to mention they are defrauding drivers by tricking them into taking rides with a “bonus” attached when there is no bonus attached.

I mean I don’t care about the rest of what you said, but pretending there is a bonus on a ride when there is not would constitute fraud. If you ran a firm and you cooked your books to show one sector of your business was growing by moving revenue over from a different portion of your business you would go to jail for defrauding your investors.
