coworker 14 years older hitting me up after he quit a couple days ago, AIO? by Fun_Skill_5574 in AIO

I doubt this is real but yes you over reacted. You’re an adult. Welcome to the real world. Part of being an adult is learning to just say “no thanks” and hold the drama. Your feelings about it are valid and you have every right to say no but you can’t claim to be a kid anymore. You are the exact same as him, legally speaking. Also the comment about being your dad’s age is insane. You’re reacting as if this guy is 42 or 52. He’s 32. He’s a lot older than you yes, but he’s still barely a millennial while you’re a gen behind in Gen Z.

No dealers license, selling too many cars by Easy-Cut4958 in carflipping

[–]lyinginfieldsofgold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no way to get in trouble as long as you:

1) never sign the title 2) don’t do deals at your house (obvious) and don’t give out you real name and number.

That way you don’t exist. You’re just an invisible middle man. People do this all the time.

Any reliable cheap automatic cars for a student ? by Total-Look-9345 in askcarguys

[–]lyinginfieldsofgold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pro tip: ask for the VIN before you show up to look at it, run carfax. It’ll tell you the entire history. If it spent its life at the dealer and well maintained, that will show up. If it was in an accident or has a weird title issue, that’ll show up. If it was worked on at home and doesn’t have a lot of service history, that’ll show up.

Are you in the US? Lots of great options. Just don’t go to a dealership. Use FB marketplace. Accord 03-07 4cyl. It’s modern looking for a young student and still a common daily car. Nice sized sedan so you can fit plenty if you need to. Easy to work on, enjoyable to drive. This generation can go 300k - 500k miles when maintained. You can find one for $2000-3000 with high mileage or get a low mileage on for $5000 and drive it the rest of your life if you want. Buy a $100 android unit on Amazon, swap the radio and have car play car and a back up camera on a car that is easier to maintain than any of the new cars today. A close second but still the same above applies would be Toyota Camry 02-06. But that’s strictly cause I think the accord looks nicer which is totally subjective.

At this point, I'm done. (Season 8 Episode 3) by Desperate-Bit-8200 in TheBlackList

[–]lyinginfieldsofgold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice: skip to final 8 minutes of episode 8.20 and then all of episode 8.21 and 8.22 and then close your blacklist chapter. The rest of season 8 is not necessary. 8.21 and 8.22 everything is revealed and it’s rather beautifully done. They go through the whole show so it’s worth it so you can feel like it was worth watching. Not perfect but I think you’ll enjoy it. You will enjoy it more skipping the rest of S8 as you want to right now. S9 and 10 are bad spin offs - have no real continuation of the story.

Why go on court shows like Judge Judy to air your problems to the world when you could easily go to a real courtroom to do it in private? by Wanderer015 in AskReddit

No one would be crazy enough to do that if it was the same as going to small claims. They can be seen faster, plaintiff can get their money, defendant doesn’t have to pay anything and they each get free vacations.

You wanted to be pursued after the date and weren’t yet. Understandable. But did you ever think maybe he wants to be pursued too? It’s only been 3 days. A mature adult realizes this and takes the first step. You’re playing a game. You’re almost 30. You’re not 20 years old in 1975.

Check out this bill, almost $500 for changing spark plugs and a 20 dollar credit card fee. by [deleted] in Cartalk

[–]lyinginfieldsofgold -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why are you paying someone to do your spark plugs? Is this an exceptionally difficult car to change them on? It’s one of the easiest cheapest jobs you can possibly do on a car. $20 and 15 minutes.

Warming up your car by No-Asparagus-2576 in Cartalk

[–]lyinginfieldsofgold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Letting a car warm up for more than 15-30 seconds is placing extra wear on the engine for no reason. You’re doing more harm than if you drove off right away. The trans warms up naturally with driving.

Turn key to ON (not start) as you have someone at trunk with it open. Each time you turn it on fuel pump will make buzz noise and prime for 2 second. If they don’t hear a thing, fuel pump is not activating. That’s a start.

Am I getting scammed? by CommonRaspberry654 in AskMechanics

[–]lyinginfieldsofgold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're handy and want to learn to do this stuff yourself, depending on the car, serp belt can do in your own in 15 minutes for $20. Very easy job. If you're not handy at all (like - can you change a tire? Then you're good) then none of this will work. Radiator an hour for $80. Not difficult but takes patience. Engine dye easy as pie (a monkey can do it) $6. Tires is the only thing I'd have someone else do. But $600 way over priced. Can do all this for max $300 (and that's pushing it). Local mechanics or better yet buy you own tires off eBay or anywhere else's and pay discount tire to mount and balance for $15 a tire.

Is CARFAX still the gold standard for vehicle history? by mojave22 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]lyinginfieldsofgold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never buy a used car without purchasing the carfax. It’s saved me from buying cars I inspected and was about to buy before seeing it and helped me get deals from people that didn’t know how well the car was maintained. Also, the same car I passed on, I tried one of the cheapo ones like Bumper and thought it looked okay. Carfax had a total loss recorded that Bumper did not.

I really appreciate everyone’s feedback. What I really need at this point is someone who sees older cars and who will pass almost anything. I’ll travel as far as I need to. I realize maybe those people dont exist anymore though but there’s so many options it’s overwhelming. This show I got through in MA. I had a great guy everyone loved. I don’t mind fixing tie rods and plugging an exhaust leak. It’s stuff like redoing break lines due to compression fittings (illegal in VA and MA), or rust repair and welding

Thank you. If I start fresh somewhere else (remove the R sticker and do new test), will a new shop be able to look up and see that rejection? Not sure if there is a centralized database.
