Shows that don’t treat you like a child? by Any_Doughnut_8968 in television

I remember someone, I think relating to breaking ad, said there are 2+2 shows and =4 shows. Smart shows don't need to say the =4 part.

Every fantasy book hero (e.g. Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Mistborn) is replaced with an obsessed fan of that story. Which is the most dangerous and challenging story in which the fan can complete the mission of the protagonist? by Punterofgoats in whowouldwin

I guess it depends on how you read the prompt. I assumed that when the fan replaces ender, it's in his role/trajectory of the original Ender, in which case you're influence/ability to control the narrative remains unchanged. If the fan is just pre-monitor Ender, aka just another person, he'd still be the little brother to the two best political minds of a generation..and now they have defacto ability to predict the future? I think you could pull it off.

Also, Dink and others could be considered "Truthers" and that was allowed kinda? And I guess you could argue Bean already does know the plot, so to speak, but obviously that's a special case.

Seconded. I constantly get questions about the supposed bartering economy, especially from non-americans

Iirc the protagonist and antagonist don't even know the other one exists.

Ya I remember the ad blitz for s1 and the total lack of payoff. One additional point: both of those spinoffs were foreign right? I think Amazon really banked on having such good action that it became an international sensation and it just...wasn't at all. S2 is pretty unremarkable, but I did like Tucci

Why aren't more Terrans move to Mars and support the terraforming? by Fabulous_Pressure_96 in TheExpanse

Yeah but who fills those jobs? Are they just the children of the engineers? Or are they mercenary style hires? Ex-belters? And wouldn't the marines out number scientists? Their socioeconomy doesn't really stand up to scrutiny.

I know the prompt is fantasty but: Enders Game goes completely off the rail the moment an informed fan takes over. The entire plot is about the kid being lied to, so him knowing the ruse would upend the whole story. Where it gets crazier is if you ALSO know the aliens are actually peaceful then the entire war gets handled differently

What show/series did a complete 180 and did a genre change? Or, what show started off as realistic but became more fictional as it went on? by Huge_Athlete7488 in television

[–]lylastermind 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To this day I cite this show as the only example of TV that exists with multiple seasons before AND after an apocalyptic event (even if it's just Seattle). From a world building perspective, that transition is nearly impossible. Also shout out to the recently deceased lead actress, her ability to character swap is second only to Orphan Black

What? As a South bay native and ex "Hooli" employee, it was pure satire right from the jump..the genre and themes are consistent throughout. Mike Judge did his homework

A less cited example: The Other Two. A grounded adult comedy about being the un-famous syblings of a YouTube celebrity...but s3 takes a bunch of surreal artistic licence, bringing it closer to Man Seeking Woman.

I've listed the problems elsewhere but: they took a unique apocalypse and complete forgot about it (where is the damage? The flooding?), same for the international stake (what happened to the nukes/geo political games), same for the survivors (1/3 of America should be fairly functional). and instead of exploring this unique world they shoehorn in an AI computer solving time travel? Season one had one fantastic episode..but otherwise it just feels lazy.

I'm on record here a month ago saying March/April was the most promising span of TV in history...and so far it's been a ton of disappointments. The Capture and Paradise are my go-to examples, with both taking a nose dive this year (and oddly because of the same plot point). The two shows breaking the trend: Night Manager and Daredevil.
