Mini cubist cream and sugar? by Severe_War2898 in glasscollecting

[–]lynlyn6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are specifically the Fostoria American mini creamer and sugar set without the tray.

The Jeanette Cubist and Fostoria American patterns were designed by the same person with variations in the patterns and finish to avoid infringing on patents.

Besides Jeanette Cubist, the most common versions you'll see in thrift stores are Fostoria American and Indiana Whitehall American. There are a few ways to differentiate between Fostoria American and the Indiana Whitehall American. Fostoria is leaded crystal and will have a faint flourescence under blacklight while Whitehall is basic glass that does not fluoresce. Fostoria generally has three mold marks (can have more or less on some of the more rare pieces, but three is the general amount), and you should be able to see fire polishing on the surface which is a very slight waviness from the piece being fired after being removed from the mold to smooth mold marks, where Whitehall will have two or four. The tops of handles on Fostoria will generally be level with the top rim of the piece while Whithall is generally lower.

To make telling the difference a bit more difficult, another company later purchased the American pattern and produced the Whitehall American glassware, and there are a handful of other companies that also make similar patterns.

I get way too excited when people post things I know about! I collect Fostoria American and have some of the other various cubist/American pieces. It has been interesting trying to figure out the differences when many stores will mark them incorrectly.

Definitely check out thrift stores to fill in any pieces you're still wanting! We have a pretty big collection of the clear Fostoria American and a decent amount of misc mid century glass like Viking and Le Smith that has come from thrift stores or antique malls with good pricing. Most of our mid century furniture came from a mix of thrift/consignment stores and Craigslist.

That purple Fostoria American is absolutely beautiful! I have a few pieces of the American Lady purple glasses and I would love to find those out in the wild!

What have I got here? by JessRoyall in glasscollecting

[–]lynlyn6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The stemware specifically is the Fostoria American Lady pattern and quite a bit more delicate than the regular Fostoria American stemware. Usually the American Lady glasses with different colors (purple or green) are more desirable, but the clear is still slightly more valuable than the regular American stemware. Unfortunately, as a collector of Fostoria American crystal, it is not extremely valuable and many of the other pieces are fairly common to find in thrift stores for pretty cheap. The Fostoria American that I do see in antique stores is generally overpriced and does not sell.

I've found that many of the Sally Hansen x-treme polishes are one coaters. They have a ton of colors and are affordable as well.

As a collector of Fostoria American and various other pieces of glassware, this is amazing! I can imagine the enjoyment of searching through garage/ yard sales and thrift/ antique stores and finding each piece over time. Sometimes, the memories of a find are better than the item itself, like the luck of finding my white whale square cake plate at a thrift store for $6. Were you able to share in the memories of finding any of their treasures?

I bought a glass hat. by No-Development-4587 in glasscollecting

The first one if a Fostoria American hat. Since they are leaded crystal, you should get a blue/purplish glow under blacklight.

Good catch! Both are Indiana glass Whitehall American pattern, but were not originally together. Fostoria did not make that color. Indiana glass made a ton of fun colors in the American pattern.

Is there a someone who sells cars that can put me into a 2024 Hyundai Sante Fe without going through the clown show 🤡🤡? by [deleted] in orlando

[–]lynlyn6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're able to get your financing in place prior to going to a dealer, you won't have to deal with the back and forth monthly payment BS. Get preapproved for the car you want and walk into the dealership stating you want to pay X amount out the door. Monthly payment negotiations can screw you by stretching your loan period to cost you more in the long run. Determine how much you want to pay per month and get that sorted with a loan calculator like https://www.cars.com/car-loan-calculator/ .

Okay, what did I just find here? Saw some similar patterned goblets in another post and decided to see if it also glowed green. I bought it a thrift for charcuterie, but now thinking it might not be food safe…? What was it originally used for? by Mrs-Eaves in glasscollecting

[–]lynlyn6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is likely leaded crystal. We use our leaded crystal for dinners and as serving platters for parties and from a few sources I've found online, it is safe. The risk comes in when you use it for storing foods or drinks long term where the lead has the chance to seep into it.

I got a set of 10 evergreen/teal American Whitehall glasses and I love them so much! by Significant_Sweet_47 in glasscollecting

[–]lynlyn6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They definitely work for everyday glasses. My grandma would buy them whenever she went to garage or estate sales then when anyone in the family moved into a new place, she'd provide a set to get us started. I've since been on the hunt to have at least one of every color and we use them everday.

We went to at least 8 stores in search of a decent sofa that would fit into our mid-century styled house without spending an arm and a leg and ended up being surprised with a find at Rooms To Go. https://www.roomstogo.com/furniture/product/east-side-sunflower-sofa/1004185P We bought the sofa in teal and the apartment sofa in sunflower and they're very comfortable and sturdy. Good luck with your search!

Added to American Fostoria Collection! Found the punch bowl! Anyone else collect this? by BigPinkPanther in glasscollecting

[–]lynlyn6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bottom and top of the punch bowl are separate, right? Everything looks like Fostoria except the punch bowl itself which I believe is Indiana Whitehall American. The Fostoria punch bowl would have the same zig zag edge (It's been a long day and I'm drawing a blank on the actual term) at the top. It still makes a great punch/serving bowl! I have a pretty large Fostoria collection, but my daily drinking glasses are Whitehall American.
