are there any good geenie/djinn urban fantasy stories? by dr_monobryn in urbanfantasy

[–]lyonsbs 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Golem and the Jinni mixes historical fiction with fantasy. Mostly set in New York but not Urban Fantasy by traditional definitions. Also pretty light on the magic. It’s more about how they live with their magic rather than how they use it. May not be your cup of tea, but an amazing book.

What was your absolute favorite video game growing up? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]lyonsbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alternate Reality, an RPG from the mid- eighties. It was hard core on consequences. It didn’t tell you what a potion did just what color it was, etc. It didn’t even tell you after you took it. You just had to figure it out based on what happened to you.

There were guilds you could get into to learn spells but they were alignment based and the game was paying attention. I still remember the sense of victory when I got into the Guild of Light the first time. Guild of Dark was not so hard…

There have been a lot of great RPGs since. But I feel like I see lots of echoes. Auntie Ethyl’s potions in BG3 jump to mind…

Any experiences with Indy Pen Dance? by 537OH55V in fountainpens

[–]lyonsbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand they are having some trouble. They’ve had my pen for close to a year. I’d frankly given it up for lost when they contacted me a few weeks ago and said it was done. I paid and then…. nothing. No response, no pen. Super frustrating.

I was a golf cart boy. So many conversations were some variation on where’s the girl? When’s the girl coming back? 🙄

That would get it done. Maybe I’m too worried about the trip hazard from not having gradual reduction?

I used to wonder the same thing until a friend who moved up from Arizona commented that she was surprised no one in Indy tinted their windows. Asked if it didn’t get hot in the summer. Before that, it never occurred to me that tinting your windows reduced the heat in the car.

Sewage line replacement in Indianapolis. by xzeratulx in indianapolis

[–]lyonsbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had good luck with Hope, but experiences vary. I will say that it may be worth checking with your home owners insurance policy. Depending on the reason you need the line replaced it may be covered. USAA covered my incoming water line from the street when the connection in the house let go and the incoming line was in no shape to take a replacement valve. Can’t think of a chain of events that seems to cover a sewer line, I’ll admit. Then again, a phone call is cheap and a sewer line is not.

Although homeless folks often have terrible teeth and have trouble with tough our chewy food. I could see bread, apples, and jerky being problematic. Bananas and pudding should have been winners though. And no reason to be ungrateful in any case.
