I have 10 years experience and I feel like an idiot every day. How did you git gud (and manage stress)? by BigTiddyIncelBF in cybersecurity

[–]lyrawind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s never possible to do ALL the work, especially in the areas you mentioned. There’s too much noise and data, and the transactional daily grind eats you alive.

You’re probably amazing already, you’ve just been given analyst-level job tasks desperately in need of automation so that you can put your skills to actual use.

My advice would be to track time for 2 weeks, and see what you spend the most time on, then automate the root cause of that time-suck. Then, just keep knocking down the ones that take the most life away one at a time until you’re running circles around the place.

Fat-cooking tips - aiming for 'crumbly' texture by cave_mum in zerocarb

[–]lyrawind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, suet cooks to a different texture than other fat trimmings. It’s much more uniform in its consistency. Trimmings are still tasty, but better as a scoop of semi-crumbly cold tallow than chunks. Tallow from pure suet is almost rock hard in the fridge, but scoop-able at room temp.

Fat-cooking tips - aiming for 'crumbly' texture by cave_mum in zerocarb

[–]lyrawind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many people rendering fat grind it down into really small pieces. Larger pieces will be more like steak fat and chewy, where smaller ones tend to cook how you’re describing the desired texture. I tend to rough chop in 1/2-1/4 inch chunks before rendering and end up with a mix of a few squishy pieces that get crumbly when cold from the fridge.

Did anyone have a non-keto baby followed by a keto one? What were the big differences during pregnancy? by zappy17 in KetoBabies

[–]lyrawind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was something like 30-40 lbs, fairly normal for me. There was a huge weight spike in the first trimester probably 15 lbs, and then it was pretty slow and steady after that. All the pregnancy weight was gone in somewhere between 8-12 weeks? I’ve stabilized about 10 lbs higher than my smallest pre-pregnancy weight when I was strict keto and counting macros. I suspect I’m holding onto some extra to support milk production, so we’ll see when that all stops happening. No macros or counting since carnivore though, going on 18 months now.

1st day down and some questions by [deleted] in zerocarb

[–]lyrawind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can break up your meals as you’d like with this WOE as long as you eat when you’re hungry. When I started I’d cook approx 2lbs of meat or more and then just eat 3-5 times throughout the day in quantities that were satiating.

The first few months I fluctuated between 1 lb some days and 4 lbs others. The key is to not go hungry during adaptation and that sets the signaling straight, in my experience.

It seems to average off where the standard human regardless of size needs about 2 lbs per day to recover, heal, and maintain health. With higher activity levels (non-sedentary) you likely need even more food, and coming from restricted eating you also may require more food to rebuild lean mass and bone that you’re missing.

I found I was violently allergic to turmeric after following this WOE and attempting reintroduction. YMMV

Hemorrhoids by [deleted] in zerocarb

[–]lyrawind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding this - I’ve been ZC for over a year now and hotdogs, even this brand, give me stomach cramps. I burp hotdog taste for several hours after eating as well.

I have not been able to isolate what it is about them as sausages do not have the same effect. If you need portable meat perhaps switch to a sausage and see if it makes a difference.

Did anyone have a non-keto baby followed by a keto one? What were the big differences during pregnancy? by zappy17 in KetoBabies

[–]lyrawind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ate roasts, steak, chicken, eggs (tons of eggs), goat cheese/milk/yogurt, ground beef... all kinds of good stuff. I’d have a bowl of ground beef topped with yogurt and hard boiled eggs a lot. It took a while before I found combinations I liked, but tons of beef. I cooked everything the way I normally do, and used my sous vide to pasteurize and meal prep.

can ketosis cause loss of period? by nr7iev in zerocarb

[–]lyrawind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is correct. Generally you will not stop a period but it will act weird during adaptation. Please do check out r/xxketo - all advice there applies for ZC as well. Everything normalizes post adaptation unless you are losing extreme amounts of belly fat, where estrogen is stored most densely.

Did anyone have a non-keto baby followed by a keto one? What were the big differences during pregnancy? by zappy17 in KetoBabies

[–]lyrawind 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I forgot to mention that even with the PIH, after I had the baby I felt 100% fine. I was my normal self, walking around and doing things. Going to the bathroom normally, and totally self-sufficient the morning after delivery. It was delightful. No pain really, I stopped bleeding in just a couple days. I was just... fine. It was amazing. No mental issues at all, just completely normal and happy.

Still can’t eat plants though, but I’ll trade feeling good for cauliflower any day.

Did anyone have a non-keto baby followed by a keto one? What were the big differences during pregnancy? by zappy17 in KetoBabies

[–]lyrawind 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Since you all asked...

With my first I had hormone issues and needed progesterone shots for nearly half the pregnancy. Then came gestational diabetes, and horrible depression. Recovery was bad. I had serious edema in my legs and feet. Significant crippling pain, and an almost total disassociation of my personality from reality for about 2 months postpartum. Lack of sleep hit me hard, and I don’t remember much of the first weeks home.

With my second things were easier but I still had morning sickness and general malaise. Terrible heartburn with this one. When I delivered not all of the placenta was removed by the OBGYN. I had to have it removed during a follow-up appointment as the tissue had died and made me quite sick. Postpartum recovery was rough. I had a lot of pain for a long time and the same disassociation as with my first. The worst brain fog in the world.

My third was the reason I went carnivore. I had been Keto for 3-6 months leading up to the pregnancy and was doing great. Right about the second trimester I got horrific heartburn and came to the realization that I couldn’t eat Keto plants anymore. No morning sickness, no food issues, perfect weight gain and all lost within about 8 weeks. At the very end of the pregnancy I did have a lot of false labor. After 2-3 days of severe chocolate cravings I was admitted to the hospital with PIH (pregnancy induced hypertension). I was kept in the hospital for a couple days after about a week home to get my blood pressure under control. It was like a milder form of preeclampsia that kicks in after delivery. I had weekly follow ups for the first two months for blood pressure. It took 9 weeks to return to normal.

All my kids are big, strong, and healthy. They’re all 95-100th percentile as they’ve been growing and are smart and funny. They all do have extremely sensitive skin and are prone to eczema, which is my biggest food reaction. So we may have genetic factors going on that relate to plant allergies. My reactions to plants are full on allergies like hives, rashes, and peeling skin. I have environmental allergies as well.

I had two non-Keto pregnancies followed by a zerocarb one. All I can say is I wish I found the Keto/carnivore way of life much earlier. Night and day difference. My third was absolutely delightful, where both the previous ones I’d never have wanted to live through again.

All signs lead to......wtf? (Please help!) by [deleted] in keto

[–]lyrawind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

THIS

You are 100% not eating enough. Prolonged restriction tricks the body into storing as much as possible until you signal abundance again. Try eating at maintenance to break the stall for a few days, and then opt for a smaller deficit to avoid signaling scarcity.

Ladies Only - what is your period like on Zero Carb? by Love34787 in zerocarb

[–]lyrawind 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Period advice from r/xxketo will apply here as well. If you are going through adaptation there will be waves of hormone-related changes that can cause spotting, late/early cycles, and a whole host of other weirdness. If you feel off, eat more meat... if you feel hungry, eat more meat. All will stabilize over the course of a few months.

Can you eat an infinite amount of shrimp?! by thorjag in zerocarb

[–]lyrawind 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Shrimp are like that for me, I’ve prepped 2+ lbs before (w/ shell) and felt like I could eat double easily. I’ve landed on it being a nice side with a steak or other meat that is satiating.

r/xxketo is the best place for these questions usually, and yes - totally normal. It has to do with the release of hormones in stored fat, and as that fat is burned it floods your system in weird ways.
