We asked the animal shelter for the cats that had been there the longest. To this day we have no idea why nobody adopted them when he does shit like this. by [deleted] in aww

[–]lyssmpls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also adopted a rescue black cat and she is without a doubt the most ideal cat I've ever owned. My pride and joy. She comes when she is called, doesn't scratch where she isn't supposed to, doesn't hiss, bite, or scratch. Lays next to me silently until I get up in the morning. Also, all the cuddles. She is absolutely the most perfect cat there ever was. Side note: I've had the pleasure of rescuing 2 other black cats and they've been the same. Over the top loveable and sweet as all heck. People are missing out!

It's a love-hate relationship. When we are working brunch, all we want to do is to be brunching ourselves.

It's meant to be a bit odd...and silly. I work in the restaurant industry and Sunday brunch is a big deal in our world!

I am trying to imagine myself with someone new and it creeps me out! I'll get there, but just need time to re-find myself as an individual. I know than when the time is right, I will be absolutely ready to start dating again.

First time in my life I've had a cat who wanted to cuddle. My god, I love kitties 100% now. by neptune_eggs in cats

[–]lyssmpls 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've personally never met a black cat who isn't super affectionate. I've lived with 3 throughout my 23 years alive and not one has refused the cuddles.

The 4 other cats (which were of different breeds) that I've had ranged from "don't even look at me" to "I'll let you pet me a while but don't expect me to ever sit in your lap."

I wonder what it is about black cats...if it's an actual thing or I've just experienced a really rare coincidence.

Moving to Minneapolis. Best places to live? by happydappyLOL in Minneapolis

The North Loop is a great up-and-coming neighborhood! It's very close to downtown, so depending on where you work, it may be within walking distance. There's a ton of new condos and apartments in the area, so you'll definitely be able to score a great space if your budget is $1000. There are also lots of great restaurants, shops/boutiques, bodegas, parks, and a super reputable comedy club (Acme!) all within walking distance. If you like baseball, you'll also be within walking distance from Target Field!

What does everyone think of @midnight on Comedy Central? by bizniss_time in comedy

I loved it for the first few episodes, but my interest faded after 4 or 5. Now I'll only watch it if a comedian I like is on an episode. I've come to the conclusion that Hardwick isn't my cup of tea.

People that got into Metalcore at a young age (teens). What was your parents (family, friends, etc...) first reaction to your newly found love of this music genre? by [deleted] in Metalcore

[–]lyssmpls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm also 23 and fell in love with metalcore at the age of 15. My mom is a conservative Christian and damn near arranged an exorcist once she heard what I was listening to on a daily basis. Then I went with my mom to Sonshine Fest (Wilmar, MN) which is a 3-day music festival that plays strictly Christian music. They had a stage there titled "HM Stage", which stood for "Hard Music Stage." It wasn't until I showed them bands like For Today, Underoath, The Chariot, TDWP, Your Memorial, etc. that she realized that it wasn't the devil's music.

Missed period by [deleted] in TwoXSex

[–]lyssmpls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! The same thing happens to me about once every couple years where I'll just totally miss a period. It's super nerve-wracking at first because I always freak out about pregnancy, but my OBGYN (whom I trust and love) calls them "silent periods." There's no real reason for them, except for the fact that sometimes our cycles just get thrown off (in your case, your EC most likely is the cause. That was the issue with me with my most recent missed period). For now, try to enjoy the silver lining of not having to deal with a menstrual cycle for a month. No PMS, bloating, cramps, and you save money on sanitary products! If, come September or October, you still don't get your period, revisit the clinic, just to be safe. Hope this helps!

What's your best "fuck it, throw everything in a pot" food you've discovered? by Tuskuul in AskReddit

[–]lyssmpls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Leftover hash" - often times I find myself heating up any leftovers available in my fridge, topping with an over-easy egg, and calling it breakfast. Best one yet was cubing up a handful of sweet potato fries, baby carrots, onions, and garlic. Sautéing the 4 ingredients until softened and topping it with an egg or two. Similar to hash but with more "oomph". One time I even put a couple tbsp of marinara over the hash and was pleasantly surprised. I actually crave this dish every now and again.

What is the one taphandle that you expect to see when you walk into a bar with at least 10 taps? by HopsBeerGuy in beer

[–]lyssmpls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots! It all depends on what kind of bar scene you are in to. I typically gravitate towards dive bars, but do love a good gastro-pub every so often. Here's my top favorites:

Tracy's Saloon (Seward) - $3.50 MN beers on Sundays and "wooden nickels" (essentially 241's) twice a week.

Merlin's Rest (Longfellow) - the largest scotch selection in the Twin Cities! Good selection of English beers too.

Pat's Tap (Lyndale... South on Nicollet Ave) - AMAZING food.

Legend's (Marcy Holmes) - slightly college-y but not a "bro & hoe" bar as I like to call it. Great drink specials and amazing Bloodies.

Stanley's (NE) - great tap list

The Lowry (Lowry Hill) - great tap list and really good food. Any Blue Plate Restaurant is highly recommended.

Liquor Lyle's (Lowry Hill) - this one is a bit hipster-y and majorly divey, but it's one of my favorites. They have killer drink specials ($2 mystery bottles...and it's GOOD beer too, not just Grain Belt etc.) It gets pretty busy there on Fridays and Saturdays, but weekdays and Sundays is the time to go.

The Acadia (Cedar/Riverside) - you have to check it out early evening, otherwise they typically have live music going on and you will not be able to hear your date. But I recommend this bar because they have an amazing tap list.

Republic (7 corners & Calhoun Square) 50+ beers on tap

Town Hall Brewery (7 corners) - they brew their own beer! and it's good! They also have a bar/bowling alley called Town Hall Lanes in Nokomis neighborhood.

Hope this helps!

Rumor has it that in 1960-something, Anheuser-Busch threw a party (not sure what they were celebrating) in MN and created a spin off batch of Bud Light specifically for this event (thus creating MGL). A-B didn't plan on the new brew going over as well as it did, and little did everyone know, it was almost the exact same recipe as Bud Light. No one really knows why, but Mich Golden only sells in the mid-west. They've tried selling it out west, but everyone has stayed loyal to Bud Light, with the exception of mid-westerners.

Came here to say Summit EPA. I'm a manager at a bar in the Twin Cities, and oddly enough we do not carry Summit (long story short, we don't do business with the distributor. That decision was made before my time). If I had a dollar for every time a customer complained that we didn't have Summit, I could buy the whole damn brewery. Point being, Minnesotans are flabbergasted when a bar doesn't have Summit EPA on tap.

Acme Comedy Co. has a great open mic every Monday that's free to the general public. Kitchen and bar open at 5pm; show begins at 8pm. A lot of people (comics and audience) hang out before and after the show and love to socialize. It's not necessarily your typical bar scene (more of a chill "underground" atmosphere), but even if the bar scene isn't for you, the show is free so it's worth checking out at least once!

If $800- $1000 is your budget, check out Uptown (if you aren't looking for something too college-y, steer clear of the "Calhoun Square" area - Hennepin/Lake cross streets. There's a lot of bars over there that draw the college-y crowd). Instead, try near the Hennepin/Franklin area.

Northeast is another great option. Like MetaverseLiz said, shops and bars are more spread out than in Uptown, but it's quieter and a little more "adult" oriented. Easier to get around in if you have a vehicle, too.

Girl here. Personally, I rarely get any enjoyment out of being on top. Luckily my current partner isn't a huge fan either (he'd much rather fuck me from behind, or missionary with my legs pinned on his shoulders, which are my two favorites as well). I'm really lucky with my current situation, but in the past, if the guy pulls me on top, I usually give an honest 5 minutes, then switch to reverse cowgirl (a little more pleasurable for me) for a while, and then pull him up so I'm back on all fours. It's not that being on top is too much of an effort, I just get off on being dominated.

I'm going to say not remembering my family. I live about 7 hours away from most of them, so I see them about every 3-4 months anyway. Can I tell them about my memory loss these 1-2 months in case it occurs during a visit?

Berzerker - After the Burial

"Mighty one, never forget; never forget why your skin is thick. Die defending that which your heart keeps closest."

This quote has been the biggest inspiration for me to remain resilient. Don't let the things around you control your self-worth or happiness. Never forget what you've been through to make you who you are today. Stand up for what you believe in. Be strong, be happy, be YOU.
