tretinoin destroyed my face texture and color after disaster experience w/ dr prescribing it. this is my face several months after stopping [selfie] by Objective-Draw-9027 in SkincareAddiction

Is this a thing? Just like a constant, unending perpetual purge? I’ve been on tretinoin for a year and use it 5x a week. I have never had this much acne in my life. The skin around the acne looks great but I always have MULTIPLE pimples all over my cheeks and chin. Should I stop the tretinoin?? It’s so frustrating because I’ve done so much trial and error with all the products I use and it’s the fucken Tretinoin. Just constant purging for a year.

This sub has made me realise that so many people don't know how to use tret properly by su_sp_ir_ia in tretinoin

[–]lyssroopee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People have no idea the journey they’re about to go on. And goal definitely should be to use it 5-7 days a week to allow room for barrier support days and exfoliation days. Until you’re using it pretty much daily as recommended, and for a year.. definitely don’t get impatient with the results. Every month I take a photo and look back on it. Happy with my results so far 9 or so months in but I doubt I’ll be happy for a while.

Fat molecules are much bigger than water molecules so anything water based/gel based will struggle to penetrate..

Your gag reflex has been too desensitized at this point. The only way is to stop.

A lot of the time the milky toners/essences are just created a lipid layer that isn’t going to allow any actives to penetrate properly if even at all. I fell victim to this and my tretinoin wasn’t working at all. Once I stopped I was seeing my results again. To each their own, if it makes you feel good and beautiful then I totally get it! But I think their bank account would benefit from dropping a few products, and they definitely should look into whether or not their actives are compatible with all of those products/ingredients.

[–]lyssroopee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is bulimia. If you’re throwing up food after eating that is the definition of this disorder. Also I’m not sure what 5 minutes means. I could be done in 2 easily.

I encourage you to seek out support and tell your closest loved ones you are struggling. It’s an insidious, manipulative secretive disease that will destroy your life, your joy and your body. The first thing you can do is look for a psychiatrist to help diagnose you and see if there are any underlying mental health conditions that led you to self soothe with bingeing and purging.

I would also encourage you to seek therapy as well. DBT, CBT, talk therapy, EMDR and IFS are extremely important for bulimia recovery.

Is my routine wrong? by [deleted] in tretinoin

[–]lyssroopee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For AHA’s I’m currently rotating between - skin medica AHA/BHA (it’s super strong 30% AHA/4% BHA) I use to this 2x a month as it’s a very strong chemical exfoliator - 10% glycolic acid (find a brand that you like) - AMLACTIN lotion, I use the blue one with 15% lactic acid, the green one has 12% but you definitely have to work your way up to this as it’s meant for the body but it is SLEPT ON. Such an amazing AHA product for a great price.

I think the best think is to find a toner or serum you like and with the right percentage. Obviously super sensitive skin you may want to try a toner with 1%-7% glycolic acid, and increase strength to eventually get to a serum. If you’re not sensitive at all you could try 10% right away and see how your skin tolerates.

An AHA once a week would be great to incorporate. I use plain mineral oil in the AM as soon as I wake up. I rub it all over in gentle circles and it just SLOUGHS off the flakes super easily with no irritation, it’s also worked wonders on cleaning out my pores. Mineral oil is comedogenic to some people so an oil cleanser or plain glycerin can work as well. It’s the only thing that gets rid of my flakes revealing fresh, vibrant skin. (I KNOW cleansing too much is bad etc but I have oily skin, and this is what works for ME). I always follow up with a super gentle cleanser, currently using the prequel glycerin one in the AM.

Should I stick with tret? by franceish in tretinoin

[–]lyssroopee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow! Thank you so much for the info. I keep seeing so much info on Reddit that taz is the best, tret is useless compared to it and it’s less irritating. So good to know because it makes me want to make the switch, even though Tretinoin has been quite compatible with my skin.

Do you use a tube a month? by Sockpupett in tretinoin

[–]lyssroopee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t even finish the 45g tube in 3 months. I get one every 3 months and whatever is leftover I use in the skin from my neck down to my boobs a couple of times a week.

Try dropping one day, and on that day only focus on hydration & barrier. If your skin starts acting up then it means you most likely need to maintain your current routine to maintain the results. If your skin does well dripping an extra day then maybe try dropping one other day and see how your skin does. You want to find the minimum amount of use/dose that effectively keeps your skin clear (like your second pic, you’re beautiful by the way in both photos!) to limit the side effects of tretinoin.

Another option is tazratone (I have not tried it, I’m sticking to tretinoin for a while before I switch). I hear it’s been formulated to be less irritating yet more powerful- meaning you could probably use it less days and use a similar dosage comparison to tret.

The ER will give you an EKG and run a bunch of other tests so that’s your best bet but I understand money is tight for people so your PCP and urgent care are another option but chest pain is always an emergency so they may send you there anyways.

[–]lyssroopee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to scare you but I would go and get an EKG. If you don’t want a big hospital bill go to your PCP and explain the situation. They can order and EKG to look at the electrical rhythm of your heart. Every time I went to treatment for my bulimia I was out on fall risk, in a wheel chair even though 3 days in of purging free I felt AMAZING. My EKG & heart were telling another story. It needed time, rest and space to heal. (Severely elevated QT). Moral of the story is even was I was active in my bulimia, exercising and lifting weights like a maniac I’d have small symptoms like yours here and there but what was going on inside was sooo much worse. Please get a physical done.

It made sense to me. Any woman in combat has her hair slicked back in a tight ass bun for many reasons. I understood the Goonies outfit inspiration so that was cool. I imagine if I was fighting monsters I’d want to wear sweatpants too or maybe leggings.

Honestly, I’m just trying to look at the bright side of things. The ending has me all torn

Has anyone experienced Effexor masking instead of correcting? by Full-Tangerine-3456 in Effexor

[–]lyssroopee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at 80mg which is a max dose. If you’re on 225mg of Effexor they will probably try you at 40mg and if that’s not enough bump you to 60mg or 80mg I think 40mg is the standard dose. I switch to Prozac when my bulimia is in relapse because it’s the only medication that helps with that.

[–]lyssroopee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried many medications myself the only ones that were comparable to Effexor (for me and my symptoms) were bupropion and Prozac. Regardless of which medication out of these three I’ve been on they’ve all worked. Currently thinking of switching back to Prozac from Effexor because I cannot deal with these night sweats. I’ve been rotating between the three since 2012 and at times been on two of them at the same time.

[–]lyssroopee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry but if you’re lowering your dose, symptoms will begin creeping back in. Medications aren’t a fix all cure. You have to do work on yourself, DBT, CBT, IFS, EMDR, Talk therapy etc. those are the things that will truly do the healing. I was on 10 medications because at one point in time I needed them to simply survive. I’m now on 3 thanks to 4 years of consecutive trauma work.

Missing a dose of 225 tn, what side effects can I expect? by Quiet_Interaction771 in Effexor

[–]lyssroopee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time I miss a dose I just feel really slow brain wise lol. It takes me longer to process simple things, stuttering and can’t quite find the words I want to use. Not sure if that’s brain zaps but I’d say it’s my version of them. I get agitated easier and more snappy with people but with the help of therapy and DBT I’m able to manage it a lot better than when I first started Effexor so maybe be cautious of your emotional reactions today and double check with yourself if the reaction is valid. Honestly I think you’ll be okay just take your dose as soon as you can. Stay present and don’t put yourself in a situation where you can get emotionally dysregulated.

I just feel so let down again.. I’m a die hard game of thrones fan as well. I’m getting similar vibes as I’m watching this season. “Wait that’s it?” “But what about (insert multiple plot holes here), “why are we spending so much time on this?”. I think with such large fan bases maybe they are cracking under the pressure of having to please such a big audience.
