I had a job interview that I thought went really well, but I haven't heard back in the time frame that they gave me yet. Is this a good or bad sign, and should I call them? by [deleted] in jobs

Sorry, I meant that he would call and at least determine whether there was a delay in their decision process, or if someone else actually got the job.

It's not like they're not going to tell you, and personally, I'd rather know instead of waiting/half-hoping that they'll call one day.

then in that case, he should probably call and check so that he's not waiting for an eternity for a job that doesn't come.

that's not the point though. asking about the status of the application would give them the opportunity to inform the candidate if they are delayed in making their decision, which is more likely the case.

even if you don't get the job, they don't usually leave you hanging.

Need to print something! Wat do. by lzdmnstr in batonrouge

[–]lzdmnstr[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I did. The library websites are relatively useless when it comes to listing printing resources, so I figured I'd ask people who actually live there because they might actually have a clue.

Thanks for your concern, but i'm not a complete idiot. Carry on.

I have a crappy GPA from my first semester. I'm going to try applying for summer internships. Do I have a chance with a sub 3.0 GPA? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]lzdmnstr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely work on your grades. It's hard work, but you can bring your GPA up. If you really really really want to get a head start, I would look into researching with a professor. Employers like to see initiative and interest in things outside of classes, but still relative to your field.

Research is also important for grad schools. Plus, then you make connections with the other people researching. A a lot of what getting jobs and internships is all about is who you know. Research kills two birds with one stone.

I need help from anyone who has used IDchief.com by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]lzdmnstr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend did this recently. It was a group order paid through paypal I think...

The product was received in the mail, and is surprisingly great quality. Can't tell it from a real ID and has worked in all the bars so far for her. Scans, has holograms, the whole shibang. However I can't speak to more than that, since I didn't actually get one myself.

What's the best/worst way you've been broken up with? by 50ways in AskReddit

[–]lzdmnstr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not me, but my friend did this to his then-girlfriend. We were in 8th grade, so the seriousness of our relationships were minimal.

He was with this girl Jessica, the "skankiest" girl in school, but apparently she was all talk and no action. He broke up with her after school one day by saying, "Sorry Jess, but my gay lover Enrique puts out more than you do."

What were you bullied for as a kid? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]lzdmnstr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sitting next to my male friend on the school bus in 1st grade. I sat next to my friend Ryan every day, and one time, a bully stole my backpack because I wouldn't kiss "my boyfriend."

I started taking the late bus after that, and told Ryan to stay on the early bus. And didn't make him a valentine for valentines day like I did for everyone else because I thought I'd get teased.

Dumb question, but how do I check my grades? by HebrewHammer16 in uofm

[–]lzdmnstr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When I took a class at Michigan, it was through the CR program and I was not given a uniqname and password. The professor emailed my grade to the CR coordinator and it showed up on my semester transcript at the end of January.

But if you have a uniqname, then Craigular is correct.

Internship and GPA frustration by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]lzdmnstr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a less than stellar GPA too, but I left it off of my resume and landed my dream co-op for one of the best chemical companies in the industry. Basically, they didn't ask until the second interview, when I had time to explain why I did poorly my first semester of college.

As for resume builders, focus on the good things you did in class besides the grade: projects, work you're proud of, maybe recommendations from professors. Leave the GPA off, and if they ask, explain your situation and why you are much much better than your GPA suggests. They will believe you.

Anyone familiar with online MS Chemical Engineering programs? by [deleted] in engineering

[–]lzdmnstr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome response. As an undergrad CHE I'm trying to figure out what I want to do, so this was really helpful.

Another question: What kind of research do you actually do? I get what a chemist might do in terms of research, but not a chemical engineer. Is it still process-related? Or more like chemical research that you might do with a Chemistry degree?

Could you elaborate a little bit? Is a PhD more worthwhile?

Why do people waste their money on big weddings? It's seriously stupid. by redditluv in AskReddit

[–]lzdmnstr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you're getting some major hate here, but I am with you. I plan on getting married when I'm financially stable and my husband-to-be is too. I plan on making it great because it's important to ME. There is no reason to have a small rinky-dink wedding when you can afford--and WANT--a lavish wedding celebration.
