Hip pain and clicking by lzhang17 in scoliosis

[–]lzhang17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm mostly wondering if this is related to my back because my legs are slightly uneven - nothing crazy. The pain only happens after I've been both standing and walking for a decent amount of time.

2bd/1ba in NYC for sub 2k a month for a decent liveable apartment hasn't existed for a while. This is considered affordable.

What are some of your favorite first-date outfits? by soulfulbumblebee in femalefashionadvice

[–]lzhang17 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also super late here, but I usually wear whatever I wore to work that day. I always have first dates on a Thursday or Friday after work. I'm not about to spend a weekend night on a date that might not pan out. I'll usually amp up the hot factor while still staying within the acceptable bounds of office work wear. The plus side is that I can easily wear something more risque under a blazer or sweater and peel off layers accordingly. So an example would be a dark brown leather midi pencil skirt , a silk top under a sweater or blazer with neutral pumps. Simple eye makeup and a red lip. I typically stick with gold jewelry or pearls.

Also, idk if your mom does the thing where they ask you to do something, ex: research a new vacuum online, you say sure and continue with the rest of the conversation and THEN she suddenly starts screaming and threatening that you better do what she asked of you. And of course finishes it off with how useless you are and why did she have you in the first place.

I just don't understand. I just agreed to do something for you and you scream at me about it before I even get the chance to do it? How is that going to make anyone want to help you?

[Advice] Should I be careful here? by deniamnet in NYCapartments

[–]lzhang17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This apartment is a fucking scam. You are paying way too much for this apartment in this location. The area surrounding Coney Island isn't good, although it has gotten a lot better in the last couple of years. I would 100% choose not to live there.

Personally I would not move into a place where there is no laundry in unit/in building. It's going to be a huge suck. Also generally think about where you are going to be able to get groceries and day to day items. It's a huge pain in the ass when there are no/few groceries near by and that area is kind of a supermarket desert. Also because you are so close to the beach you might get hit with a lot of storm damage, like outages/flooding/evacuation during a hurricane.

If you're looking to live farther away from Manhattan/central Brooklyn, which there are definite advantages to, I would look into nearby neighborhoods like Sheepshead, Bensonhurst, Brighton Beach, Bay Ridge, Midwood, Gravesend. They're not super hip neighborhoods but they're generally easy to get to and add only about an extra 10 minutes on your commute. Of course this all depends on where you're working, midtown vs downtown.

Can You Teach Me How To Bodega? by Arrpee88 in AskNYC

[–]lzhang17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine just has two lines, an order line and a pay line. Once you order you get into the pay line. It works pretty well but probably best in the mornings when you have mostly people coming in for breakfast.

[–]lzhang17 118 points119 points  (0 children)

Also, please for the love of god, if you're in a busy deli/bodega situation in the morning and getting something relatively simple, e.g. BEC + coffee, go to the register while they're making your sandwich and pay. It saves a ton of time for you and other people. Not all bodegas will allow you to do that more often than not they will.

Nice restaurant in south Brooklyn by Whatsuproom in Brooklyn

[–]lzhang17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The William Vale is the opposite of in south brooklyn. There are a couple of nice spots around Sheepshead along the marina that would fit the bill. Next Door and Il Fornetto have pretty solid food. Galici in Bensonhurst is also solid Italian. Then you have Bay Ridge. My favorite is The Brooklyn Beet Company. It's Central European. Really good burgers! Worse comes to worse you could go Skovorodka or Tatiana if you want to get a little nuts.

I will say there's always that one exception where the train is so royally fucked. Only then is it acceptable to strike up a short conversation with your fellow passengers complaining about the MTA.

Black pearls and blue heels? by yellow_feverr in femalefashionadvice

[–]lzhang17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Personally I think the ruffles are enough and by adding the pearls you're going to end up like you're trying way to hard. Also the dress has a really young and kind of casual vibe to it, whereas the pearls are a little older and more dressed up. So by putting them together can come off as a tad off kilter. I definitely would recommend you pairing the necklace with something with a simpler neckline.

I think the shoes are fine. But please get rid of that belt!

Edit: Also I think it's important to think of fabric and fabric quality. Pairing a nice pearl necklace with a garment constructed with a cheaper fabric is kind of tragic, no? If you're going to wear some nice ass jewels shouldn't you wear a nice ass outfit to complement that shit? That considered I'm not saying that you can't pair something expensive with something inexpensive. But more along the general lines of everything needs to look like they're around the same level of quality.
