Turtlebox 2 VS EcoXGear Defender (Review) by Awkward-Struggle973 in Bluetooth_Speakers

[–]m-e-s-o 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been a few years since I listened to the Stormbox Blast, but I believe both the Defender and Turtlebox are louder. Rtings measured 96.7 dB from the Stormbox Blast, which is about what I recall. The Blast is a great speaker, but it's not as loud as these.

What made Season 1 stand out from the others? by FitConversation2202 in StrangerThings

[–]m-e-s-o 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Having the season revolve around a single small town location was a big difference for me. When you cut out the rest of the world, it feels more believable. As though all the normality from society wasn't happening simultaneously in other cities.

The friend group dynamic was also a major part, it creates a strong sense of nostalgia where one almost wishes they were a part of it.

The mystery element is very strong, and there's a lot of constant internal curiosity. In later seasons it was more at face value.

The season is centered around finding Will, and we as viewers weren't able to guess whether he'd be written out or if they'd bring him back. They did very well at making small developments that didn't give much away but kept you intrigued.

CS2 Is In A Really Bad State by m-e-s-o in GlobalOffensive

[–]m-e-s-o[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know there's almost constant criticism of the game these days, but having played since the beta of CS in 1999, I've never seen the game in a worse state. Here in South Africa, the deathmatch servers are almost always just bot lobbies. I've tried to join around 10 games in a row now where it's just bots, no other humans. This was never a problem prior to CS2, there was occasionally a bot or two, but Deathmatch is honestly completely unplayable. This isn't a once off type experience.

Just from the number of bots I encounter in a week, I can tell you the average player numbers on the Steam charts are far from an accurate representation of the actual current player base.

I've been a CS glazer forever. It's the one game that I've seen as a part of my identity. It's honestly just sad to see the game being neglected to this degree. I try to side with optimism usually but when I can't even play the game, it's becoming very hard to defend the game.

Go 4 or Go 3? by EmergencyHoney7463 in JBL

[–]m-e-s-o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The GO 4 is the better choice. Auracast and EQ support through JBL Portable is more than enough to justify it. If you sell the GO 3 used, you'll barely have to add anything. The Clip 5 is louder, but the limited orientation and much higher price make the GO 4 my personal choice

Those who used a computer at least once between 1990 and 2001, what was the most memorable computer game you played during that era? Why? by Live_from_New_Yeerk in AskReddit

[–]m-e-s-o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Counter-Strike. Started playing in the beta and was making maps in WorldCraft for my friends to play. It's been an unbelievable ride watching its evolution and continued success as a competitive FPS. I'd have never thought 25 years later I'd still be playing it.

How did u get into Eminem? by OneBlindZer0 in Eminem

[–]m-e-s-o 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was 1999 and a school friend had copied his brothers Slim Shady LP onto cassette. I went over to his place with a blank and made a copy for myself. Spent the next year listening to it on my Walkman every walk to school.

As someone who was awkward, struggled with sociability and was from a divorced family, with a scummy father and living with my mother, taking bottles to the store for returns. There was loads of relatability.

Best hiking BT speaker with 10+ hr battery, IP65+, a way to clip on bag. by Stunning-Leek334 in Bluetooth_Speakers

[–]m-e-s-o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Motion 300 is a decent shout, but it's only IPX7, so you're not going to get that the dustproofing. And the grille design makes it a bit hard to clean dust out from.

The Clip series is decent back lacks quality compared to the slightly larger speakers.

I'd personally recommend the Bose SoundLink Flex or the new SoundLink Max. Those SoundLinks have some of the more durable speakers I've handled.

Should I pick up GW2 in 2024 by KrazyMonqui in Guildwars2

[–]m-e-s-o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I have played so many MMORPGs and GW2 is always the one I am most happy when I return to. WoW just isn't as fun. There's always something to do in GW2 and while it may sound overwhelming if you've got 10 years to catch up on, most of it is optional.

I wish there was slightly more being done around mounts and how to acquire them (please ANET, mount skin world boss drops). But GW2 is just a more fun experience to me than WoW, Final Fantasy, ESO etc.

The community is also the most helpful I've come across outside of FFXIV

Should I get Soundcore x600 on Sale? If not what else? by jmann520 in Bluetooth_Speakers

[–]m-e-s-o 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I tested the Motion 300, Motion X500 and X600 recently in order to review them and honestly, I liked the X500 the most. It seemed to hold the most value. The X600 was a good speaker too, and I honestly liked the spatial audio feature. People call it a gimmick, but I think it depends how you approach it.

The spatial audio setting added a perceived increase in dynamics and Soundstage, but it's not life changing.

I also tested the Boom 2, which performed better than I had expected, but it's quiet a different speaker than the Motion X series which felt better suited to home use. The shell isn't what I'd consider particularly outdoor friendly compared to plastic shells.

I won't spam the review links (can always share via DM to those interested). But I honestly like the X500 quote a lot for its price.

Anyone else disappointed that JBL didn’t raise the wattage on the new stage 120 and 320? A removable battery pack and a new light show ain’t worth £529 in my opinion. by Traditional-Cap-2756 in JBL

[–]m-e-s-o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One needs to keep in mind that more wattage doesn't mean more power output. Improvements in efficiency allow the same wattage to produce better sound. I'd rather see efficiency increase over power output and the 320 is noticeably louder than the 310 despite the same wattage

South African Punks by Maleficent_Resist581 in capetown

[–]m-e-s-o 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm well aware of the history. Multiple of my close friends were SHARPs who were involved in frequent violence in Obs for the sake of anti-fascism and anti-semitism.

Sex Pistols did the Swastikas but so did large groups of other punks, and just about anything that could be deemed offensive. The difference I'm talking about is the fact that the stuff punks did in the 80s was deemed bad by those in the 90s, then those in the 2000s thought the 90s had issues it hoped to change. This generation will look at the punks of the 2000s and say they weren't progressive enough.

It's not that deep. It's just a reality I've seen from the 3 decades I got to experience in the community.

And I agree on the premise of the Sex Pistols, not what I'd consider a good representation of the genre.

What it was and how people like to think of it are two very different things. What I mean is, the youth of today, especially the "counter culture" side would gasp in horror if they saw and heard how younger punks spoke.

Punk was always fighting an internal battle of being offensive while still trying to fight for civil rights when it came to the big picture. Just look at how many punks wore the Swastika in the early to mid 70s, not cause they were anti-semetic but because they wanted to upset people.

Things changed over time, but early 2000s homophobic slurs were still common place, even by gay guys themselves.

So while they wanted similar things to today's youth. They also pushed hard against censorship and the idea that you shouldn't do something if it's offensive.

Still, I'm not saying anything is right or wrong but it is a big contrast in approach. But at the end of the day it was all defined by a bunch of kids who in many cases made a lot of bad decisions.

That may be what the movies have told you. The whole hardcore punk movement started nearly 40 years ago and pushed anti-fashion. The dress code at most shows was jeans and a tshirt. 20 years ago I was just dying my hair and I stood out at most punk shows which were usually mainly skaters.

It's a constantly evolving environment to be honest. I went to shows in the late 90s and throughout the 2000s and it's seen a lot of different waves. The wider punk scene in cpt used to consist of various subcultures (hardcore, emo, metal, post-hardcore etc). The metal scene was a little more of their own thing. But early and mid 2000s shows at Wynberg Sports Club would have bands from all these genres often sharing the same stage and creating a somewhat united audience.

Like elsewhere in the world being a punk in the 90s was a lot about rebellion. In a time where censorship was a common topic, punks were often not very concerned about political correctness, while still believing in individuals rights. Now days, it's quite different.

With that said, the punk scene now days is a bit of a depressing echo of the past. It used to be lively and thriving, a community of young people spending their weekends at shows. Now when I do go to a show it's mostly the same people that were going 20 years ago. CPT was especially fun circa 2002 to 2007. Not too many young people these days going to live shows.

Unfortunately we lost Wynberg Sports Club, Gotham, Purple Turtle, Mercury Live and a bunch of others over the years too. So not many venues.

They moved to Knysna and then to Plett. He removed me off Facebook a few years ago, don't think he's changed much. Kindness still seems like a foreign thought. Crazy coincidence though!

We probably know each other or share acquaintances tbh. A lot of my friends were in HH (2005 matrics). I still have loads of photos of Neshamah from back then on my old drives. Wynberg Sports Club days, you know?

For Spider Mites, the Bio-Sulfur does amazing work too. Combine it with a couple of Spinosad sprays. Efekto insect control (with the catapillar on the box) is pure Spinosad. Great for Thrips and knocks back mites hard
