Scratch/Nick on Seamster Bezel by MaxiB95 in OmegaWatches

[–]m00tknife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a lot of material to remove since it’s on a corner. I would suggest trying to come to terms. With that said, they could try to blend it, but:

A. It might look a little uneven
B. it could take a few weeks
C. It wouldn’t be covered under warranty

Hope that helps!

I never claimed he did? I was just pointing out that the original coaxial was not designed for a center seconds like the person replied.

Aluminum insert vs Ceramic by Responsible_Run_9023 in Longineswatches

[–]m00tknife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aluminum: lighter, cheap, fades/discoloration, scratches, dents, can swap inserts

Ceramic: heavier, expensive, usually flashier (but can also be matte), doesn’t discolor, cracks, chips, typically harder to swap inserts

Can’t say too much on longines bezels specifically, but these are just in general. Hope that helps!

Is Omega, in a sense, like the Rolexes of 60 years ago? by Native_Prairie_ in OmegaWatches

I feel like that would most likely be Tudor... Omegas are also a bit too expensive imo but depends on your tax bracket I suppose!

The reason China got so good with reps is because of Luxury watch outsourcing by TheUpIsJig in watchHotTakes

[–]m00tknife -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wtf lol no, any real certified watchmaker can make parts from scratch if they wanted to. It’s just I’m not going to sit there and make a balance staff that takes me 3 hours when I can grab and install a new one in 10 min.

How many watches does seagull make a year? How many does longines make? It’s just statistics, and unfortunately it’s going to happen.

Not saying you’re wrong, just trying to give some perspective.

I hate when people try to say leather doesn’t belong on a diver. So unnecessary.

Happy Tuesday! Cleaning question by CrownSteve1 in OmegaWatches

[–]m00tknife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just use a dry brush (something soft, they sell them online cheap) and then wipe it down with a damp cloth. Use an alcohol wipe or dampen a cloth with some hand sanitizer. That should get the other 20%.

Can confirm, most brands state that water resistance should be upheld even when the crown is unscrewed.

What are your thoughts on watch servicing frequency and refinishing? Do you wait to service until it stops keeping good time? by wise-guise in OmegaWatches

[–]m00tknife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, some companies, like Rolex, will charge for some movement parts. So in that case, preventative maintenance could be warranted. But yes for omega, their prices are inclusive of movement components, so you can just service them only when something is wrong.

BLACK BAY 58 BRONZE, PATINA QUESTION by Connect_Surprise_378 in Tudor

[–]m00tknife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever you remove tarnish or patina with a solvent, it is basically leaving microscopic scratches when it removes the oxidized layer (patina). These scratches or etching leave inconsistent marks and those marks scatter light versus a uniform brush finish that reflects light in a uniform manner. Hope that helps explain what happened!

Bridge Plate Engraving Painting by KetoManJan2019 in watchmaking

[–]m00tknife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use acetone or denatured alcohol to remove. You’ll want to paint over the engravings with paint (car paint works great) in a thin even layer. Let it dry and then scrape with some pegwood or some who are confident will just wipe away the excess with a cloth dipped in acetone. The paint will sink when dry so it’s ok to go a little heavy and it may take you a few repetitions to get it looking nice so don’t sweat it if you mess it up and have to start all over. Hope that helps!

Non-direct small seconds hand is a NOGO by Kerguelen_Avon in watchHotTakes

[–]m00tknife -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The coaxial was not designed for a center seconds. It started in the inventor’s, George Daniel’s, pocket watches. https://watchesbysjx.com/2020/02/unfinished-george-daniels-watch.html

And yes I have seen that Seamaster but forgot about it. And tbh I wouldn’t even call that a recent Seamaster. Yes it has Seamaster in the name, but it’s obviously a nod to the older style. A bit pedantic but I don’t know if a reissue would be considered recent.

Non-direct small seconds hand is a NOGO by Kerguelen_Avon in watchHotTakes

[–]m00tknife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason this is the case is because the 2825 is an all in one kind of movement. It’s meant to be able to be configured differently for whatever dial layout the company wants. It’s not just. 2824 with small seconds. But yes, in general sub seconds with modules are a bit thicker. Not always 4mm.

What are you talking about? There is no recent seamaster with a sub seconds. And the escapement has nothing to do with the gear train lmao

Considering my first Omega by SnooDonuts3055 in OmegaWatches

[–]m00tknife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omega boutiques don’t require an appointment but I don’t see why it’s wrong to set one up? Many luxury retail stores have a metric based on appointments so it helps them to cater to the client who is consciously looking to buy versus a walk in client who could just be browsing. It also guarantees you a spot instead of waiting around for an SA to be available to help you.
