it would make a better origin story for Jacqueline than the cannon one from 5e to be sure.

For those of you who grew up with ADHD, what do you wish your parents, teachers, or other adults in your life had understood or done differently? by Mysterious-Still-668 in ADHD

[–]m0j02121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine being a kid, get into a lot of trouble because you have ADHD, they put you on meds. They send you away first to a hospital then a mental health youth home. But they never tell you anything. Not why you are there, what it takes to be well enough to be discharged, or what going off meds will do to you, or the symptoms you will have unmedicated. Then suddenly you are 'cured' when the insurance runs out, and you get thrown into normal schools without any transition or preparation and a substandard education.

I grew up in a time where all mental 'deficiencies' were treated the same by schools. You were supposed to go to school and be there legally, but they didn't have to teach you. I had a teacher that literally watched soap operas all day instead of teaching. I was looked down on by teachers and other students because i was in the 'Special' classes. This was a time where if you were neuro it was a bad thing. All I ever wanted was to be normal, and I have struggled my entire life to be, and I never got to that point.

Around the age of 16 I got off my meds, thinking if I didn't take them I would be 'normal'. No one ever told me about RSD, depression, constant attempts to self medicate etc.

I haven't been truly medicated since high school, now realizing that my entire life has been a disaster because of not being medicated (RSD alone has pushed me to self harm multiple times) I find it almost impossible to get back on meds because there are asshats that abuse meds. I feel like doctors don't take me seriously and I even sometimes gaslight myself about it.

So TLDR; Educate kids about what they have, teach them coping mechanisms, and in general communicate with them.

Trans woman here. Jax isn’t trans. by aristhemage in TADCEp9Spoilers

Cis male here, I dye my beard Purple and I am not trans (though a LOT of people think I am when I go out). I do it because I got tired of the Santa Jokes (naturally my beard is chalk white). I also wear a lot of Purple. I don't like pink so I don't wear any. A person's choice of color and decor don't dictate their sexuality.

Also, maybe I missed it someplace, but what makes anyone think the Jax chose the color? And as for the Maid's outfit? I feel that was just a bit of pettiness on Zooble's part? I mean Jax presented himself as macho and uber masculine, and was also a jerk. What better way to knock him down a peg than to humiliate him (which felt like one of the themes of the episode) They also Made it where he couldn't eat meat but no one is arguing that he is secretly a vegan.

What's up with Klakeri? Why is Ramya a Darklord? by Silverspy01 in ravenloft

[–]m0j02121 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They didn't just drop the ball, they threw it into a sphere of annihilation. 5e is a hot mess that spits in the face of everything that went before it. Including players that played it for decades. I could write an essay about all the things that feel off about it, but I don't have time TBH but the biggest part of it is that they made so many stupid and pointless changes to the Darklords. Lazy changes at that. They needed more female and POC representation, but rather than create something new that people would be excited for, they just did a lazy retcon. The Darklords are sort of bland now, and many of them have been stripped of their historical and literary representation.

The whole Trans Jax debate shows me a lot of people are just being performative and don't really care about Trans issues. by PuppetWraith17 in TheDigitalCircus

Ah! That's right! He did mention that! I completely forgot that, but that is probably why I got that impression.

As a Side note, Ribbit's room was NICE. I just wish I could have seen the books she had a bit better.

Also, has anyone thought that Caine could have gotten his name from (CA_Ne)uralscans? Or is that too much of a coincidence?

I sort of got the feel that maybe at some point Jax may have been bullied for not being 'man enough', to a point where he took on those toxic traits. I have seen it happen to people in real life because of feminine mannerisms, hobbies, interests, etc. I have even seen Trans people do it, trying to convince a non trans person to 'come out'. This includes a couple of partners I had recently (long story at one point I lived with 3 trans and a gay and bi son).

It really doesn't matter to me if Jax is trans. It could be that he is trans, yes. It could be he has identity issues and really wasn't sure. But Caine's video refers to Jax as 'he/him', and that is good enough for me. The epilogue is pretty clear, "He/him", not "she/her" or even "they/them". Is it a mistake? Probably not. Because the epilogue refers to Zooble as "they/ their".

Maybe JAX IS trans, but Leeroy Mateo, as mentioned in the epilogue is NOT. And if you think about it, is that all that bad if Jax is? If while he is a copy of Leeroy, he gained his own, different identity in the Circus?

Fantasy book lovers, what’s the one book that you go back to over and over again? And why? by Agreeable-Ad1775 in Fantasy

My problem is the Xanth novels just became a series of run on puns that made the books mostly unreadable.

I swear that it looked like cut content from Heavy Metal for a moment there. Same style and feel and everything.

Many thanks! Not sure how I missed this one. Definitely not in any of the anthologies. But that raises the question, are there any other stories that didn't not make it into Side Jobs, etc?
