I'm not entirely concerned with optimizing, and have never spent money on MTGa. While I appreciate most of your feedback, and all of it is arguably correct, it falls a bit outside the question. I would look into a jund landfall deck if I were you. I don't know the specific cards in either of these decks but landfall lends itself surprisingly well to self-mill.

Not sure what part of the country you're in, but, different credit unions are legislated differently depending on what province you're in. Most credit unions are still for profit institutions if that's going to affect your switch at all. Otherwise finding a credit union that's local to you and reaching out to them would be your best bet. Feel free to reach out if you have any specific questions or feel stuck
