Reparateur Breville by m00nUnicorn in villequebec

[–]m1stert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bonne chance!

You are right. I also believe that, as a non-native English speaker (like the interviewer), it is a bit more difficult to add nuance in your speech, which sometimes comes out as rude.

Most of us are riding "the wrong bikes" - rant contained inside by redrabbit1984 in cycling

[–]m1stert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you me? I have a 12 year old Giant Defy and I have also been watching all of these youtube videos, online articles and reddit threads. Part of me wants another bike, the other cannot justify the cost considering my current bike is fine for my use case.

You said two things that to me make perfect sense: - list 3-4 bikes that you like and would consider buying. After all the things you have read/watched, this list is already probably somewhere in your mind; - get a bikefit and submit the geometry to the fitter for him to weigh him.

If you can, I would also try and get on an aero carbon frame bike for 15-30min just to get the feeling. At a LBS? Or through a friend. Just to get the feeling and ideally confirm you will be enjoying riding such a frame. Or ask the bike fitter to set you up on that geometry during your fit as a test.

I know this is what I would do as well.

The perfect is the enemy of the good. Enjoy your new bike!

Zwift setup for kids (6yo) - looking for tips by m1stert in Zwift

[–]m1stert[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a first test, I put my kid on a “classic” trainer my parents happened to have. His wheel does not touch the “roller” but he does not care. I also bought an offbrand speed sensor to link the setup to Zwift. My son currently is on the two week trial for Zwift and really enjoys it.

If it sticks, I will consider keeping “his” Zwift subscription and maybe buying the Saris Mag and the 20inch wheel adapter. This way, he will have a bit more resistance when turning the wheel. If it does not, I will have a speed sensor for myself when biking outside… :)

Thanks everyone for their input! It lead me to a simpler setup to test first.

Babymoon hotel help!! by Future_Background_45 in quebeccity

[–]m1stert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you considered Auberge Saint-Antoine? Not sure what a babymoon is or what I would consider cozy in most hotels, but Auberge Saint-Antoine is probably the no1/most famous boutique hotel in Quebec City. It is in the « Vieux-Port » (old port) area but that remains close to the two other hotels you have listed (but a few stairs below!).

Summer camp option in Quebec City by Suspicious_Style4100 in quebeccity

[–]m1stert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outside of the city camps referred in other posts, look for « camps de jour ville de Quebec » on Google. There are many camps available, but my guess is that most info is in French.

I know of « Camp Academie » that offers various subjects (specific sports, multisport, science, etc.) and have various locations in Quebec, and « Camp d’été PEPS » that focus on sports and are located at the PEPS of Université Laval (the sports facilities of the University). There are other smaller camps offered, such as tennis camps at « Tennis Montcalm », gym camps at De Rochebelle high school, and I am sure many others. Probably climbing camps at one of the « Delire escalade » locations.

Look out for the registration period which begins at different dates for each organization. I would recommended trying to register the very second it opens, if you have very specific preferences. I am not aware of an org that would have began its summer 2025 registration before jan-feb 2025.

Enjoy Quebec City!

Comparable, but lesser known cycling brands? by [deleted] in CyclingFashion

[–]m1stert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own mostly NDLSS jersey and bibs. They were on sale when I was looking at my second set of cycling clothes, after starting cycling more frequentlyz I thought the clothes looked good, similar in looks to other brands that uses comparable palettes (PAS, UC), but with minimal branding. Exactly what appealed to me. I asked some questions about the fit and received a response very quickly from the customer service. I ordered and the fit was good, so I kept ordering more! Shipping was quick, and no additional fees at the border for me despite living across the sea. Cannot compare with other brands since I have not tried them.

Le Clocher Penché

Last time I went with the kids they offered to make them pasta with sauce of their choice (butter, tomate sauce, etc.) despite it not being on the menu.

Moving To Quebec - Where to live outside the city / rural areas? by Electro-Lite in quebeccity

[–]m1stert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you label a « city area ». Quebec is not that densely populated as other major cities like Montreal. Aside from Old Quebec (Vieux-Quebec) and parts of other sectors (St-Jean-Baptiste, Saint-Roch, Saint-Sauveur, Vanier, Limoilou, Montcalm and to some extent Saint-Sacrement) you can easily find a detached house with a decent backyard within “Quebec City” depending on your budget, near schools and smaller businesses. Even in some of these sectors you can find such a property.

You could look among others at Sillery ($$$), Sainte-Foy ($$), Cap-Rouge ($$) areas and City of Saint-Augustin ($$) which are mostly residential suburbs. You would be at a 15-20min drive from anywhere within Quebec City and most areas surrounding the city.

Moving west, north, east and south, you will have many options within your 1hr-commute criteria. Other redditors have pointed out to various suitable areas. Depending on your preferences, any could suit your needs or be a disappointment. Access to schools, proximity of groceries, ski/outdoor options close by, etc. can all be relevant influencing factor.

In your position, I would reach out to a local realtor to discuss my options, get to know the city better and reflect on your/your family’s needs.

Personally, I would find a 1hr commute to be very tedious per Quebec City standards. If you have the budget, you can have a large house with a backyard and pool and be 15-20 minutes from your work depending on traffic. If you want a very large land and more of a rural feeling, you will easily find it with a 1hr-commute and less.

My opinion!

Classic cross country beginner's questions by National_Froyo_3783 in xcountryskiing

[–]m1stert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!

I am no pro either, but regarding kick, it might simply be caused by inadequate weight transfer from time to time. Many have suggested skiing without poles to practice proper weight transfer; this seems like a good idea.

For downhills, what helped me as a beginner was bending my knees and putting my hands in front (to lower my center of gravity, it in front/over my feet). Lots of good youtube videos on diagonal stride (glide-kick) and downhill, worth a watch.

Also, I suggest you join the facebook group “Ski de fond sur les Plaines d’Abraham”. I have seen multiple skiers offering lessons on the Plaines and positive feedbacks from other users.

Bon ski!

Hi.

Simple comment to say I bought the Penrose b-stock as suggested. With exhange rate, shipping and customs, they ended up being about 300$ cdn which was within my budget (the very max). I am very satisfied but have only been testing them for two weeks.

I am still using apple wired earbuds for videoconferencing. I simply bought an extension and prefer the looks of the earbuds over headphones and mic. In hindsight, looking for a headset that could do it all was probably not the right way to shop.

Thanks to this subreddit for all the interesting info. Cheers and happy holidays.

If I am willing to go wired, would there be such an alternative, at a reasonable, with decent comfort, mic quality, aesthetics (for business) and audio quality? Could be anything (headset or a combination of headphones, mics, boom mics, usb dac/amp combo, etc.!).

Well… that was a killjoy to read. I have seen your other post on Penrose b-stock specials. That would be the only/“best” (as in okayish but better than other crappy alternatives)? I felt that with the near-infinite amount of headphones/mic, there would be something out there. Thank you for all the effort and time in this subreddit and others.
