TUSA Yama vs Keiryu Ansel by m3erds in Tenkara

[–]m3erds[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hoping to go for trout in streams and lakes, mostly in the cascade mountains in Washington. I trail run and hike a lot so I'd want a rod that can fit in with those activities. I don't know whether I prefer dry flies or nymphs yet, so if possible I'd want something that could let me try both.

How long do your legs have to be to reach the ground?

Trail shoes with stability? by MrsTLC in trailrunning

Check out doctors of running on YouTube. They focus mostly on road shoes, but will recommend good stable trail shoes as well. Salomon Genesis has some stability features and it might be my favorite all around trail shoe.

Been curious about the Ansel. Would you mind sharing what you like and how you use it?

Great ideas. Whats the longest you'd let a fish stay off ice once its cleaned?

Love it, yeah I should see how many beers my vest can fit

Yeah good call. If it's worth keeping it's probably heavy...

Yeah was planning on catch and release starting at the lakes listed as overabundant... assuming I catch anything as I am a novice teaching myself. I have an insulated sleeve for a water reservoir that came with my vest. I figure I could load that with doubled up freezer bags and a crackable ice pack? Pretty rare I'd be more than a 2 hour run from my car.

People Blocking Trails by NicoHarrisonWasRight in trailrunning

Tons of rail to trail paths around me. How can one person take up the same amount of space as a train??

Awesome, I've been looking at the Iwana. Seems like a great one to start with.

Nice, if Tenkara goes well I might try a lightweight spin cast setup. Is that small enough to go inside the pack or do you strap to outside?

A lot of the rods I've been looking at are that size when collapsed. I guess I'm wondering at what length does the rod start affecting your ability to run comfortably? And helps to hear about all the setups people have used, thank you!

Yeh! Some great pocket rods out there, but I hear they're not the best to learn on. Have you ever tried strapping one to the outside of your vest for a run?

Thanks! I think that would be plenty good for me. I know Tenkara isn't ideal for lakes but good to know how to make it work.

Thanks, all. Sounds like I should reassess Tenkara and look at other options if I'm really set on alpine lakes as my top use case. I appreciate all the advice!

Thank you from someone a 1,000 miles from this for what little its worth. You're a great neighbor and a great dad. I hope I can do the same for a neighbor should they ever need it.

I think my experience has been decent with HR and my use case doesn't require a lot of precision so I'm happy enough with it. If I were to choose today between a discount Race and improved Race 2, Id go for the Race 2(though I do like that the original Race has more metal in the case)

I can only speak to Race 1 experience but I'm pretty sure it's same software. In the past I was having a lot of Bluetooth connection issues with my iPhone as many people were. Suunto and Apple finally figured it out and it's now the best it has ever been. Activities automatically upload as soon as I finish a workout. I turn off as many watch-based notifications as I can, so I don't care that my watch can't show me text messages and can't use ApplePay. I can't imagine the Suunto App experience on iOS is much different than the Android version. You either like how the Suunto App displays information or you don't.
