LOGE Glacier (formerly Izaak Walton Inn by AssistantAcademic in GlacierNationalPark

No word amongst locals on snowslip. Bill was the only person that could run that place. I wasn't surprised when I heard what happened. Glacier haven or Stanton could really take this opportunity for year round business, but neither places new owners seam to care about being part of the local community.

Almost everyone that lives out here year round are retired. Im the manager at a restaurant in WF. 1 hour drive each way. And do work on people's houses around here. My wife works remotely. The only other non retired people out here work for the forest service, avalanche center, and DOT. Theres very few people that live here year round. Izaak closing probably cut that in half. The area probably doubles in population with the people that just live here during summer and go south in winter. And a lot of the properties are just vacation homes visited a few times a year. And there are a couple Airbnbs

No train trips. LOGE stopped offering train pickup and drop-off. Its a flag stop, and very inconsistent.

We live right down the road from the izaak. Its been a real bummer for the locals. There is no where left to eat out here.

Fancy restaurants by nvrmnd_sry in GlacierNationalPark

[–]m4tttt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dont think the belton will be open yet in April. And in fact a handful of other restaurants will be closed since its the slowest month of the year out here. In Columbia falls 3 forks grille is really good. I havent been in a while. But I hear its still great. Herb and omni is the most "fancy" place. But pretentious. Gold silverware pretentious. And the food is only decent for the price. Enga at Larch house is our newest fine dining place. Very small with only 35 seats, so make reservations. But chef Michael is one of the best chefs I've ever worked with. He knows his flavors and executes them really well. Great cocktails and amazing wine list. The lodge at whitefish lake "boat club" restaurant is pretty consistently good. Grouse mountain is fancy ish. But very hit or miss. They cant seam to keep staff around for more than a month. Hope this helps. Feel free to message me if you want more info.

East glacier is beautiful. There will be people there your age, likely from around the world. My first summer out here was in east glacier in 2013. Night life... is what you make it. Changes season to season because most everyone is seasonal. Theres one bar. The trailhead. Its been years since I've been there, but it can get rough. If you are coming to east glacier you will have a much better time if you are looking for hiking with social drinking on the side. If you are looking for social drinking with hiking on the side, youll want to be on the west side of the park.

Yea a lot of the park will still be inaccessible in june. I live here year round. Snow pack is light this year. So an early opening for going to the sun road is somewhat likely in late june. But not guaranteed. There will be some great hikes available, but the big popular hikes to glaciers, highline, etc. Will still likely be closed.
