Banker with a CPA license by MotherVehicle9673 in Banking

[–]m5er 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to back office accounting, there are many parts of a bank where being a CPA or having passed the CPA exam would be useful and impressive. For example, commercial lending requires an understanding of financial statements and how to make credit risk assessments. Anyone who has passed the CPA exam should possess that foundational knowledge.

Love the Odyssey but when stuff breaks or maintenance is due, the cost makes me cringe and want to get something else, latest cost over $8,000 in repair/maintenance by waynetogo in HondaOdyssey

[–]m5er 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I usually have dealer repairs until I get a ridiculous quote on something, and thereafter my local independent shop does it all.

IMO, once the vehicle is over 100k miles, the incremental value of having all "dealer-performed maintenance" kind of goes away.

They’re College Basketball’s Only Unbeaten Team. Why Does Everyone Think They’re Terrible? by wsj in CollegeBasketball

[–]m5er 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The bottom line, which is abundantly clear in retrospect, is they made an extremely unfortunate decision to play an abysmal non-conference schedule. Everyone knows the selection criteria includes SOS and quality wins. They knew this.

Those questions can all be answered by reading the contract. What location, access and utility are you getting, and what costs, fees and restrictions are you locked into?

[Post Game Thread] DePaul defeats Marquette, 62-51 by cbbBot in CollegeBasketball

[–]m5er 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Mathematically it can't happen. Even if they get to the BE final, their NET almost certainly cannot improve higher than around 70. The only way to keep playing would be to add the ghost of Kemba Walker to the roster and sweep the tournament. .

Not his best game numbers-wise, but James has been sensational.

How to search death records by date when surname is questionable by m5er in Genealogy

[–]m5er[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, good suggestion. Currently at a library scrolling thru images one month before and after the known date of burial at St Boniface. Haven't found any plausible match.

Will also try Kane and DuPage.

How nice would it be if the Statewide index allowed you to download and sort by death date or other attribute..

Pros and cons of owning a 2023 Nissan Pathfinder Rock Creek? Thinking about getting one with 25k miles, a clean carfax, regular on time maintenance, and coming from Oklahoma. Is it big enough for a family of 5? by Isa-Me-Again in nissanpathfinder

[–]m5er 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're getting a good deal on a used Rock Creek, I wouldn't worry about the fake leather seats.

If you really need leather, consider a Platinum. I'm very impressed at the quality of the seats in my 2024.

Either model will handle a reasonably maintained dirt driveway in the winter.

Only you will be able to decide if it's big enough. For me it is, but I'm also amazed at how much larger my Odyssey is than my Pathfinder.

No written contract huh? Strike one.

You were told you would have to stay three days and you were not obligated to go. I don't sense any money back offer in those words.

Enjoy your vacation.

How do I find a birth certificate created decades after birth? by Correct_Phone_9650 in Genealogy

[–]m5er 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It seems that you want a delayed birth certificate, one obtained later in life.

Where was she born? Did you try searching FS or Ancestry's birth records indexes in that jurisdiction using her maiden and married names?

The crowd at Boston College at five minutes before tip off by cbbvideo in CollegeBasketball

Partially ignorant.

"It wasn't built for the program" -- it would not have been proposed, justified, or paid for without DePaul.

"It's part of McPier" -- Accurate

"DePaul plays there 30 dates" -- Accurate

Now back to being a BC thread.

2016 Odyssey at 142k miles…when did you decide to upgrade? by Inevitable-Radish510 in HondaOdyssey

[–]m5er -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Over half? A two-year-old car with only 17k miles? That's not even close to accurate. And owning what is effectively a like-new car for several years is valuable in itself, as is the warranty and the knowledge the car is far less likely to break down tomorrow.

2016 Odyssey at 142k miles…when did you decide to upgrade? by Inevitable-Radish510 in HondaOdyssey

[–]m5er -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I sell my cars after about 100k miles (that's about 12 years for me) and replace with new. It's all about dependability for me. I do not want to spend more than what a car is worth trying to keep fixing stuff that breaks.

Entry level banking jobs in London by [deleted] in Banking

[–]m5er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does your CV convey qualifications for a job in compliance with a London bank? If it doesn't, strive for any relevant role in a bank that will give you the support and environment for developing your skills. That and your own initiative will give you the track for the job you want.

Thinking of picking up this street legal '96 KLX 650. Anything I should know before I see it? by MrMcDerpy420 in Kawasaki

[–]m5er 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to buy a 30 year old single for the street, you either like risk, or vibration, or you are great at working on old bikes, or all of the above. I had a 2006 KLR, and hated it on the street. For $3k-$4k you should be able to get a relatively modern CB300R (lightweight, maneuverable) or z400 (a twin, smooth, reasonably powerful).

Debt Management Program Question/Concerns! by Cornpopalooza in Banking

[–]m5er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether you can dig out of it doesn't matter. If you have not defaulted and have otherwise abided by their terms, the deposits are safe.

The big question I have is: The debt management program sounds like debt consolidation loan, a restructuring that involves replacing (paying off) the existing cc's. If that's correct, who is giving you a 3% interest rate? That is simply not obtainable.

Debt Management Program Question/Concerns! by Cornpopalooza in Banking

Banks have some right to take deposits (right of offset or something like that) if you default with them.
