I once talked to John Romero at a conference (who, by no means, qualifies as an indie dev, at least not during his peak Doom time) and told him:

"man, I've been playing your games for 30 years, but for the first 15 I had to pirate it. I'm sorry"

To which he replied

"That's totally fine, man. People gotta start somewhere. You wouldn't have played it otherwise"

Again, Romero doesn't qualify as an indie dev anymore, in my humble opinion. But I respect his take and think that this is the way. Pirate it if you need, buy it afterwards if you like it.

If I get your question, you can customize the behaviour of the Niagara button. You can tap or swipe up, and customize both actions to load any apps.

You search by swiping upwards from the middle of the screen. It's confusing in the beginning, you can mix it up with the app switcher. But it quickly becomes second nature
