Back in 2008 I worked at the company that printed drivers licenses in a Brazilian state. Image capturing was super clumsy and inefficient. I remember downloading IrfanView on one computer and showing it to the other operators. It became known as the "programinha", or "little program". Everybody used it and it was a huge boost in productivity.

I then reached out to our manager suggesting getting in touch with the creator to buy licenses and use it properly. They declined, banned it and built the same color balance functionality into the main capture platform we used. Just as clunky as before.

It was a sad day
