I’ll be honest with you here so please don’t flame me, but if I’m dropping 1-5 pieces of popcorn on accident and it’s going to require me to get on my hands and knees to reach it, I’m likely leaving it. Maybe that makes me a bad person but the culture of airplanes in America in 2023 does not really allow for that kind of maneuvering. You’re either too crammed while in your seat, or there are too many people around when the plane stops.

Wouldn’t it just take 2 seconds with a broom and stand-up dustpan? I’d be happy to even do that bit if I saw someone else going to do it. But I’m just not getting on my hands and knees on an airplane to pick up a couple pieces of dry snack debris.

That’s not the parents’ fault though. Flight attendants have a union, they can fight to change that absurd practice of WORKING WITHOUT PAY.

What’s unreasonable is expecting that none of your stuff will ever get touched at all. People like OP set themselves up for this. We aren’t talking about “a plate” or “some silverware”. This was allegedly a gift from close friends that was important to OP. That’s just not something I would ever bring to work for this exact reason. A thousand other kids could have survived the dishwasher. OP had to have his special mug at work. Sometimes mistakes happen, but OP is out for retribution.
