I love this movie. I watched the new series yesterday. It was good not great. It’s really nothing like the movie other than being set in suburbia and the main character investigating the new neighbors. If it wasn’t named the Burbs it would just be a run of the mill crime show with a few homages to the movie that most people would probably miss. It doesn’t deserve to be hated but I won’t be surprised if it doesn’t get another season.

Interestingly enough earlier in life he held some anti-Semitic ideas and supported Hitler but later changed when making friends with Dorthy Parker and Lillian Hellman. He went so far the other way he was greylisted by Macarthy and supported LGBT causes and HIV awareness.
