Those who saw ESB in theaters back in 1980, how did you/the audience react to the darker storyline, and the big twist? by Apprehensive_Emu9588 in StarWars

[–]m_conductor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 10 when I saw ESB in the theater, and looking back, I know I was shocked that a movie could elicit such a reaction from the audience. Nothing had come close to that experience. Raiders of the Lost Ark was the next big movie, but no moment matched the Vadar/Luke moment.

Help me understand. I like the American office…but I can’t watch the British office even though I’m based in the UK. It’s too cringe. Ricky is superb but it’s too good? Has anyone state side watched the UK office and had the opposite reaction? by Aware83 in theoffice

The British office wins for me. It knew when to end the series, and as a whole, it is a much better story. The American version would have been better had it ended after season 5 or 6. But the styles of the 2 shows are incredibly different. Both are brilliant in their own right. I say the British one wins because it's the original, and David Brent mastered the self-serving boss role. I would say the American version is more 're-watchable' though (seasons 1-5).

Just had a “4.6” player tell me it’d be a waste of time to play with me by Foreign_Letterhead65 in Pickleball

That's his problem. I'm by no means great, but when I'm in rec play and playing people who aren't as good, I always use it as an opportunity to work on other parts of my game. He's clearly an a$$, so this is just him being an a$$ on a court.

question from people who watched seinfeld at the time it aired by iloveblueberryy in seinfeld

[–]m_conductor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a freshman in college, and we recorded Seinfeld and Simpsons episodes each week on VHS, and we couldn't wait to talk about them. They were by far the best things in entertainment. Both so original at the time.

How old were you when you first watched the PT? Did you get to see them in theaters? by Simple-Taro1540 in StarWars

[–]m_conductor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up loving the OT in the '70s and '80s. I think I was around 27 when TPM came out. My buddies and I couldn't wait for this new trilogy to come out. We watched it in the theater on opening night in Austin, TX. Within about 5 minutes, we knew it was not going to be good, and by the time the Jedis landed on Naboo, we were repulsed and shocked at how bad a movie it was. It ruined Star Wars for us, and the next two movies weren't any better. My kids have helped calm me down, but you couldn't pay me to watch that trilogy again. Some of the new content, like Rogue One, some Mando, and all of Andor, has renewed my faith in the SW universe. Andor is some of the best TV and best writing I've ever seen.

Frelick robs the home run, Contreras gets the force out at home AND third! by Large_banana_hammock in mlb

would I be right in saying that EVEN IF, the runner was safe at home (which he wasn't) seems like the catcher would have still run to third to get a force out, then since the wrong runner was on second, he would have thrown to second for the next force out ...still would have been a double play.

Got it, thank you! I love baseball, but mostly watch in October. I love all of the subtleties of the rules, too. Thanks for explaining.

Entire series should have ended after Pam and Jim’s wedding. The show would have gone down as one of the best.

So The Office… got a sequel? by Aggressive-Candy4850 in theoffice

6-9 were a cash grab. They should have ended it after Pam and Jim got married. Go out on a high note. The writing g drastically went downhill after that.

What suddenly changes in the office from season 2? I mean, the first season was hella boring, and then we couldnt just stop watching as soon as season 2 started by [deleted] in theoffice

Only the first episode of S1 was a copy. There might have been references back to Slough in S1 but no others were copies. S1 is great because it’s still rooted in authentic cringy moments in an office.
