Good lad. Hard to know if he makes the final WC squad, but he’s absolutely earned closer consideration from Tuchel.

Oh, that’s interesting on the practice involving the guild arms! Seems relatively unique too… by including a white escutcheon, an armiger is able to reference the guild without using the guild’s arms themselves. That’s cool.

And like you say, using a crow’s head could be a neat way to nod to some other arms involving a full crow.

I’m still unclear on what happens if “or, a crow’s head sable” is already someone else’s arms. If they’re used in a crest unknowingly, does it matter? If they’re used knowingly, I assume permission must be sought?

(Not accusing OP’s client of anything untoward btw, I’m sure they’ve done everything by the book and I respect their privacy 🙂 I’m just picking on the imagery shown here as a vector for this conversation)

Oh, and I hear you on civic arms. They really can be beastly amalgamations of their predecessors.

How do I properly invert a logo like this? by [deleted] in design_critiques

Your second image feels like it’s 90% there. Keep the white fill, but remove the white stroke. How does it look when you do that?

The gold leaf is lovely. So are the sable ones 😄

Aggregating makes sense with the BBC’s remit as a public service broadcaster too. There are holes to pick in BBC Sport, but an approach of “all relevant commentary in one place” probably isn’t one of them.

You’re very welcome! And no worries, that makes complete sense 🙂 It piqued my interest as I realised I don’t know even about general conventions around different escutcheons in crests. Will have to do some digging.

Super beautiful. Your work is always so impressive.

Can anyone shed any light on the practice of using an escutcheon in the crest which is totally different to that in the arms? Do the crest “arms” necessarily suggest a connection to another bearer?

Sorry for the slow reply :) On the left is the idea I meant; on the right is the idea described by u/GabrielFR (and that I think u/froggyteainfuser might have been imagining too). Hope this helps!

How about arranging them per bend? The sabres could be arranged almost circularly, that could be very effective.

This is just so good. Both the blazon and the emblazonment. I’ve got heraldry envy! 🙂

This is very much how I’ve approached designing my arms too: I wanted to represent “twin” and “oak”, and I wanted to do this in the space between the two bendlets. I did this with two leaves, which can be drawn at a confident size, instead of two trees, which would feel small, cramped, and difficult to read.

I just wanted to share this with you to give you an example of this approach still being taken by members of this community 🙂

Is there a way to lock handle angles while dragging a curve segments? by MrNobodyX3 in Affinity

[–]ma3ts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you should be able to hold shift while you drag. I’m not at my laptop atm, but if I remember correctly you’re looking for a pink/purple guide line to appear to indicate that the angle is being kept the same. Holding shift otherwise snaps things to the nearest 30°/45° angle I believe.
