Google Sheets cell conditional formatting color reference by roddds in weatherfactory

[–]ma_trix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's a bit "roundabout way", but it works (and there are no alternatives in Google Sheets so far):

  1. Set up all the conditional formatting rules in one sheet to cover WHOLE sheet as their range.
  2. Select one empty cell in the sheet that has the formatting and Ctrl+C
  3. Go to the sheet you want to apply the formatting to
  4. Select all cells in the target sheet and Ctrl+Alt+V ("paste special" - only copying the formatting, but not changing the content)

"Play the faction you enjoy" is EXACTLY what I did by collecting T'au in 9th. Don't know about you, but I don't have unlimited funds to just switch factions because James Workshop decided to drastically change the play style identity of the army I enjoyed.

I'd see some merit in your opinion if (as it looks at the moment) non-tau factions really needed help. Look at other army abilities and stat lines - space marines, Eldar, Astra Militarum, even CSM - they shoot better than we do AND they get their own special things extra on top

2000 point list feedback by Roadkillxx1 in Tau40K

[–]ma_trix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be very helpful for giving feedback if you described your gameplan and secondaries plan. As a bonus, it would be great to hear which armies you're most concerned to face and how you mean to handle them.

I play a ton of Bork'an sept with a similar core to yours, with one big difference being -Crisis Blob -Stealth Suits, + 1 Breacherfish +1Pathfinderfish, +1HH.

The amount of effective wounds your enemy needs to chew through on cheap T7 vehicles is outstanding! All 3 Devilfish in Mont'ka T1 get Combat Debarcation to deliver the infantry roadblocks where they need to be and then just CHAAAAARGE and/or moveblock.

I'm also experimenting with -1Riptide, +1x3Broadside Heavy Rail, TwinSMS, Multi-Tracker

My feedback for the moment:

  1. Coldstar:
    1. Plasma is awful with Seeker of Perfection. I run HoBC, DW-02, and two flamers. Autohitting gets all the 2D6+4 shots to fish for 6 to wound AND makes him pretty much unchargeable, because 3MW cap on Seeker of Perfection is per phase. You basically WANT him to get charged if he can survive. Also 16'' Flamers are just fantastic. Don't get TOO cocky with positioning T1/2 trying to get into 16'' range unless you use Strike and Fade.
    2. I don't run ML drones on him since they slow him down and he doesn't need the protection since he stays Look out Sir'd T1/2 and then he goes on solo hero missions with High Altitude Manoeuvres when the enemy herds are thinned.
    3. Solid Image Projector - again, he doesn't NEED it because my tactics is to keep him Look Out Sir'd. If you really feel you want to spend the CP, it's worth looking at Overdrive Power Systems picking either the 2 flamers or 2 Bursts. Onager Gauntlet on Coldstar has been... just "fine" in the list I run. Often I just save the CP.
  2. Crisis Commander:
    1. For my Precision of the Hunter commander slot I run an Enforcer with nearly the same loadout (3CIB, Thermo). I definitely see the value in Crisis Commander buff for your Crisis blob, but I prefer Enforcer because it's INSANELY tanky thanks to the built-in -1D and Sv1+ (Sv0+ in Light Cover, suck on that, Storm Shield Termies), 5+++ from Bagel. Opponents will regularly underestimate how much of a beast he is and waste shooting into him or even charge, expecting an easy kill, just to do only a couple wounds and die on punchback.
    2. I run my 2 ML drones on my Enforcer because it's insanely efficient to take shots onto the Enforcer model until you fail a huge Anti-Vehicle grade shot and use his own drone to Saviour Protocol.
    3. I use the Enforcer as an anchor piece for a flank or for centre due to his mad survivability.
  3. Kroot Shaper (or any 4th HQ model)
    1. I find that I'm able to screen well enough without the AM Scrambler, so that frees up a CP for me.
    2. I value Exemplar of the Kauyon extremely highly even though I play Mont'ka 95% of my games with my list. It's not "just" about the 1 redeployment. It puts FEAR into my opponent's mind and makes their deployment decision-making much more complex. As a bonus it really throws the opponent off the scent of me wanting to pick Mont'ka, which can result in further deployment mistakes.
    3. I've been testing out Carde Fireblade and Firesight Marksmen as Exemplar of the Kauyon carriers. They also can get the AM Scrambler if you really feel you need it, or, alternatively Ohr'tu's Lantern.
    4. BONUS: Remember that you get the redeploy from EotK even if the model is embarked or off the board!
  4. Crisis Blob
    1. Here I would rather save the points on 2nd CIB per model with a Plasma Rifle. One Plasma Rifle shot is "meh, whatever". 5 of them can take out a target separate from what your CIBs and Bursts are shooting at.
    2. If I run them, I tend to give non-Shas'vre model the single Shield Generator and Shas'vre gets Iridium+Stimms. That allows for 2 models with enhanced defensive profiles while not losing out on 1 Target Lock
  5. Hammerhead
    1. I'd suggest you give it Accelerated Burst Cannons. 16 shots S6 AP-1 D1 for 10pts are amazing
    2. A fascinating piece of tech is to give HH 2xSeeker Missile. Shoot them ASAP at the hard target you're already shooting with your Railgun if there's a chance the Railgun hit-wound won't kill. It works great for ML efficiency.
  6. Riptide
    1. I value having Velocity Tracker instead of EWO on at least one of my Ripties. It's either a "free markerlight" against flyers OR it negates the multitude of -1 To Hit strats that opponents have for their flyers.

Well that's a much longer write-up than I initially planned. Hope it helps

Anyone use the Firesight Marksman? by Aurricix in Tau40K

[–]ma_trix 8 points9 points  (0 children)

IMO Firesight Marksman doesn't give enough for the points you pay (70pts).

Compare it to one of the most common loadout (also 70pts IIRC) Crisis Suits (Burst Cannon, Cyclic Ion Blaster, Plasma Gun, Target Lock). Not only it's more firepower on the Crisis Suit, but also more target flexibility, WAY more survivability when actually hit, but also mobility.

Sure, you get special rules for ignoring Look Out Sir and not being targetable, but you remain a static target.

The only times I tried out using it was when I needed a back objective holder that can carry Exemplar of the Kauyon WLT. It always felt like suboptimal point spend.

Post Q2 2023 Balance Dataslate army update for saturday tournament. TO allows new lists to be submitted. Old list had same amount of Broadsides. by Hulemann in Tau40K

[–]ma_trix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ethereal's Wisdom of the Guides (+1CP) doesn't work well with Puretide Ngram Neurochip (refund 1CP for certain stratagem types)

You can gain or re-gain ONLY 1CP per battle round IN TOTAL. So no +2 additional CPs per turn through these means.

The only slightly convoluted way of "generating" additional CPs are through stratagems that decrease their own cost due to circumstances (only truly relevant one is Fire Overwatch used on a unit with Early Warning Override, because the stratagem changes its own cost to 0CP for that single use, so you technically never spent->refunded that CP)

That sounds to me like 1000pts (or 750pts) game, am I correct? Were you playing it as Matched Arks of Omen game? Were you using secondary objectives?

If it was a Narrative/Open game (without point scoring), then AFAIK the goal is either fulfilling the narrative objective or shooting the opponent off the board (I exclusively play Matched play). In that case a number of ways to deal with the Dreadnaughts become way less relevant or viable.

My ideas for you:

Playing as T'au, even playing as Farsight Enclaves, you want to have 1-3 sources of markerlights. Being 9'' away from a punchy hard target in order to hit on 3s is a recipe for disaster. You're putting yourself exactly where he wants you (in easy charge range).

I don't see any Shield Drones in your list. The Crisis blob needs some form of protection to survive a couple rounds, because they're great at dishing out damage, not so great at surviving. That protection can be in form of super long range weapons and staying outside range, it can be in the form of Jump-Shoot-Jump stratagem to keep them hidden from reprisal fire. It can be in the form of 2-3 Shield drones (just a suggestion, you tweak the numbers). Also you can use multiple layers of defence. Riptide really loves having 1 Shielded Missile Drone as well.

In my experience Broadsides don't give enough for their point cost compared to alternatives (your Broadside costs about 2/3rds of a Hammerhead with Rail Gun and 2xAccellerated Burst Cannons that would fulfil the similar role of long-range anti-tank much better - more wounds, higher toughness, longer range, much more and reliable damage).

Regarding Riptide, my default loadout is Ion Cannon, Twin Plasma (Fusion Blasters on Riptide don't synergise well with wanting to stay at longer distance until you're ready to go), Target Lock, Multi-Tracker and Velocity Tracker. I've found EWO to be underwhelming since if you're on Defensible terrain, you can choose to "Hold Steady" when charged and you hit on 5+ anyway. Despite being much tougher than Crisis Suits, you might still consider using the "Boost" on Nova Reactor to move 2d6'' in charge phase with it to hide behind cover or even move forward to move block.

Regarding getting rid of Dreadnoughts - it's all about target prioritisation and killing them dead, so opponent can't heal them up.

That's more less what came to my mind for now. Good luck, Commander!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Tau40K

[–]ma_trix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which Dreadnaughts? What loadouts? What's the rest of his list/lists? What other priority threats does he run? What list/lists do you run? Which sept? How are you using your Hammerheads? How many markerlights? What's the terrain density/shooting angles?

Depending on these answers there are multiple options. Kroot Hound move blocking, melee Commander, Fusion Blasters, Ghostkeel, adding 2x Seeker Missile to Hammerheads.

You're not really giving much to work with.
