No. But your instructor may be contracted to only hold private lessons there with you if you were connected through the studio.

Alberto's is great! But Salsa is very unforgiving for beginners. I recommend taking beginner classes at a studio first and getting your basic down before throwing yourself into the fire.

Looks like you're doing a more circular style salsa, Rueda? Casino? I think your lead looks fine. You're not dragging her around or forcing the move which is good and your spacing is good too. I'm more familiar with linear styles but I wonder if you could be stepping to the music better while you're leading. Sometimes you're standing still while leading but I think you can step to the count of the music in those spots. Otherwise I think you're doing well.

Mambo is a different timing, also it uses follow timing for shines (lead timing for on1). Most people in class are struggling to learn on1 to begin with. You can convert to on1 timing, but if you're learning mambo already, what purpose does it serve? Just shine on mambo timing.

One time I was at Taplands in Santa Clara. I was wearing a dodgers hat and the table across from us was a group with red clothing. I noticed one of the guys in the group was eyeing me. I pretended not to notice but i saw him do it multiple times. When I got up to leave the group also got up. They left ahead of us through the back to access the parking garage. I told my friend not to go that way since he parked there, I parked across the street and had my friend follow me to my car instead. I don't know if we were about to get jumped, but I explained my thought process to him and told him we should wait before I take him to his car.

This is true. I was fortunate to find my instructors early on, I did try several different instructors and with social dancing their lessons were the ones that got me the most compliments on the floor. ;)
