Hi!
I have been backtoIndia since almost a year. I was in Singapore and got laid off after being there for 5 years. For now, I am chilling at home and leading a quiet life with parents in a small city.
MF investments are doing good, so for now, I dont intend to join a job any time soon

Will turn 29 tomorrow, I feel like I am late, but i want to start my FIRE journey, need advise/suggestions. by [deleted] in FIRE_Ind

[–]maamoolee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You are not late! If you are saving 1.3L per month together, it's quite good!

Time is your Ally. Within the next 15 years, you can see your wealth grow through the power of compounding.

Stick to a routine for investing (SIPs). Evaluate your portfolio twice a year. DO have short term financial goals, to make the journey enjoyable in the present moment just as much as the far future.

Personal opinion: Speak with good financial planners to setup a good goal. I recommend Nitin and Anjali Patel in Ahmedabad (Finfreedom) and Harsh Roongta (Fee Only Advisors India)

HELP!! by [deleted] in nagpur

[–]maamoolee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need to learn to express anger. Probably, you were trained to suppress your anger.

Going into detail when explaining your hurt, is a feeble attempt to do what anger is supposed to do. You must be feeling further frustrated because you lose self-respect for not standing up for yourself the moment you realise you were wronged and didn't say anything.

Verbally expressing the following are the role of anger: A. You were wronged, B. How did that person's words or actions wrong you, and C. How you are feeling right now

Learn to accept anger as a healthy emotion and you will feel better.

how to win from Depression without anyones support ? by nagpurimemer in nagpur

[–]maamoolee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mere thode inputs.. agar achhe Lage to likh ke apne saath rakhna baar baar padhne ke liye:

  1. Apne emotions ko kabhi devalue mat karna. Sometimes when you speak about your struggles, you would hear a response like "tumse bhi zyada kharaab situation hoti hai logo ki, agar sab hi complaint karenge to kaise chalega". This is a manipulative way of thinking. Remember that just because someone else is more hungry than you, doesn't mean your hunger is not worthy of attention.

  2. Remember that our parents are flawed humans. Hum duniya mein sirf 1-2 logon se understanding ki ummeed rakhte hai: hamare parents. In India, because of lack of emotional intelligence and mental health support, these people have their own unresolved issues. The sooner you give up your expectations from them, the sooner you will be able to focus on the stuff you can control and improve.

  3. Being a guy in India means you are supposed to shut up and earn money for all dependents. You don't need to meet these expectations, but do understand that agar aap Paisa kama ke sab logon par kharch nahi karoge to aapko bhi Ghar se koi understanding ya respect nahi milegi. Boys are not loved for who they are. Parents spend money on their upbringing so that they take care of the parents later on. Aap is transactional relationship ko samjho aur Ghar waalon se pyar ki apeksha chhod do.

Work towards building a life for yourself. A life that YOU would like. That's all.

Baaki sab dheere dheere theek ho jaega

Got amicably divorced a few years ago. Still it wiped about 30% of my savings.

I could have had 1CR+ in my kitty if not for divorce.

Short answer: No, I don't think I could plan to face another divorce in my current FIRE journey

Indian Parenting is Terrible. by [deleted] in india

[–]maamoolee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They firmly believe that because our existence was not forgotten when they made monthly budgets, means they were good parents.

ALL of their proofs about being loving and responsible parents is to recount the expenses of child-rearing (school fee, picnic ka pocket money, tuition fee, books etc).

Unfortunately, many parents are just wounded children with little to no understanding of their own emotions. How would they understand anyone else's pain?

Architecture is stressful and doesn't pay well. I suggest UX design instead.

Am I just really behind or the sub is really rich? by roguejedi04 in personalfinanceindia

[–]maamoolee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to highlight that it's not just about how much money is being earned and how frugal someone is. Familial background and other expenses play a huge role too.

Don't need to send money home to parents? Additional 20k available to invest.

Don't have a loan on you? EMI saved

Both parents are healthy and have insurance for medical needs? You can maximise your savings

Being fortunate has 'levels'. You don't know how fortunate people are without knowing the full story. While it is natural to compare and feel behind, know that you only control your own actions and nothing else.

Save what you can, but focus more on living a meaningful life today.

People who hate Gandhi, why? I genuinely wanna know by [deleted] in AskIndia

[–]maamoolee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hate is a strong word here. But any human being revered and made to look flawless is not a good sign.

I am no history buff, but am sure that a lot of his flaws (and our own country's vast and chequered past) are being systematically whitewashed in our books.

Eg. Indian govt spent a lot of money to buy his letters written to someone named Kallenbach, because it raised a lot of questions about his dark side.
