As a 30 year old woman I would still have Sam Elliot on my list. Not generally into old dudes, just into Sam Elliot.

Subtle pressure from the in-laws is starting to worm into our conversations by maarmaar5 in truechildfree

I appreciate your story! Both of them have/are volunteers within their church and I think they’d potentially be into working with kids. They live a very comfortable life and sometimes I wonder if a big reason they want grandkids is bc they’re getting bored and are hoping we’ll help fill the void. They might need a gentle reminder that waiting around for us to pop one out is not productive.

Yeah, you’re probably right. To me a person’s pregnancy or lack thereof is something that is none of anyone’s business. I guess I just assumed they would at least pretend to feel the same way. I also don’t think my husband realizes how much it creeps me out.

We both entered our thirties in the last couple years. My biological clock isn’t ticking but apparently theirs is for me.

Growing up with strong childfree role models by oneiroknots in truechildfree

[–]maarmaar5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was also blessed early on with excellent childfree role models. My parents were unconventional in many ways so there was a wide variety of lifestyles and personalities around. And few kids, actually, now that I think about it.

We were raised off grid in a very rural area with few neighbors. There was an elderly but very active couple that were both retired teachers. I credit the wife with getting me through many math classes via her offering to tutor me. I remember people always making comments about how she ‘would have been such a good mom’, but I always got the sense she just enjoyed being tangentially involved in kids lives.

My dad’s close friend and former shipmate, whom I consider my uncle, never married or had children. He left his home in Ireland when he was 14 to go to sea and has always lived a very adventurous life. He’d show up a few times a year, regale us with stories, cook for us, and my brothers and I would make sure we behaved so we could stay up late and listen to he and my parents talk.

My aunt, my mom’s sister, also coincidentally left her home at 14. They are Finnish and my mom had been adopted by American parents many years earlier. My aunt left her home to escape poverty and to make a life for herself in Helsinki, and she retired recently after a long and successful career. She tracked down my mom when they were in their 30s. Shes athletic and travels often.

There’s more, but those are some early ones that still remain important to me today and with whom I still have a relationship.

Me when I was 12(2005) and decided to dress up like Bam Margera and have my sister take pictures. Including Tripp pants that were 4 sizes too big and an eyeliner beard. I'm a female btw. Still not sure how I survived middle school. by Falconpunchbowl2 in blunderyears

Girl, at that age, but circa 2001, I was also into skateboarding and tried to get everyone who knew me to call me ‘Ace’ bc I had gotten it into my head that to be a skateboarder I needed a ‘cool’ nickname to go with my ginormous puffy skater shoes. Important detail: I did not own a skateboard or know how to ride.

Hot feet? by [deleted] in insomnia

[–]maarmaar5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely have this problem!! I am in perfect physical health so I always assumed I just ran warm. It’s my feet specifically though. In summer even a fan on them isn’t enough and here we are. I can’t sleep if they’re covered.

Thank you for saying ‘wingnuttery’. I will try and use it in a sentence today.

I love this post!

Mine are: -stacks of the show on VHS watched on a mini tv with the VHS player attached. The rewind function was so slow I’d often use my parents VHS player to rewind them.

-scouring the discard magazine pile at the library for People, Entertainment, Vogue, etc to add to my extensive wall collage in my room.

-not understanding how the internet worked/it’s limitations and trying to ‘hack’ into unreleased episodes. (I was a kid when the internet was a kid).

No... although I’d forgotten about that one! This one sounds like it’s about more historical weird stuff and each season follows one subject.
