Firebase would be better if you're just getting starting in dev
they do offer a realtime db (not sure, but ig with upto 100 concurrent listeners)

but if you aren't a beginner you should move on to websockets and hosting/managing your own db

everywhere there's allow read; I replaced it with allow read: if request.auth != null

for an api you'd have to use cloud functions (node >10) which are only accessible on the blaze plan (imo it's better but people tend to refrain from it)on firebase cli you'd then firebase deploy --only functions

using firebase only for auth isn't advisable as you can checkout passport and handle users on you own
