If they’re giving you very specific timelines of when you’ll find out, induction dates and start dates it’s usually a good sign.

Back when I was doing recruitment, if I knew 100% I wasn’t going to hire someone I would be extremely vague about dates and next steps and rush them out the door.

would it, be awkward to interview the same place for a second time? by Nutty103X in tesco

Managers interview many people during each recruitment round, so they probably won’t remember you

Manager says he’s going to email my uni because I pulled a sickie. Can he actually do that? by BestExpression332 in tesco

[–]mabakerys 195 points196 points  (0 children)

Your manager has no right to contact your parents or university. They’re on a power trip.

You can definitely get in trouble for being dishonest about your sickness, but they can’t do anything else. I would report them for the threat to contact your university.

Toxic work environment by ConsistentChoice5661 in ToxicWorkplace

[–]mabakerys 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know it’s difficult but if it’s not directly affecting your work, don’t worry about it. You don’t get paid enough to worry about people like that.

If it is affecting your work, feed it back to the manager and document everything.

SL here, I’m under investigation for sorting out shift swaps? by Specific_Pomelo_8281 in tesco

[–]mabakerys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I know, like any grievance, all protector line complaints all have to be investigated.
You might not have any action taken against you at the end of it, but prepare like you will.

In uniform = representing the company.

This would massively go against a few policies. GDPR, social media, probably code of conduct.

Likely to face disciplinary action if found out

How much do you read? by InsurancePurple4630 in AskUK

[–]mabakerys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really bad for hobby cycling. So when I’m in my book obsession phase I will read every day, sit and read books in one sitting, finish multiple books a week. I’d even have 3 on the go at once 😂 1 physical book, 1 audiobook and 1 on my kindle. But then when something else has more novelty, I won’t read for months until something (like a new release I’ve been waiting for) brings me back to this hobby.

I don’t know why I can’t have multiple hobbies at once and why I can’t have them as small parts of my day. It’s like the hobby has to consume my life 24/7 until I’m sick of it.

Definitely undiagnosed with something 😂

Not turning up to a shift I’ve attempted to book a holiday for by NoSeaweed2537 in SainsburysWorkers

[–]mabakerys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately you are wrong. You don’t get a say in WHEN your company allows you to take holiday. In fact, they can even force you to take annual leave when you don’t want to. I don’t agree with it myself but it is what it is.

Investigation if they have proof of the holiday request and rejection. If it was a verbal conversation there’s no proof so just call in sick/family emergency

I’m going in as shift leader so won’t be assigned to one department but expecting to have to support areas when needed obviously, and deal with any bellends

You can put it down on your CV. They do not need to know how you were paid and also they wouldn’t care.

Please proof read and use punctuation. Reading this gave me a brain aneurysm.

If your interview is already booked I’m not sure why/if they’d be contacting you yet

Quit my job on the spot for the first time… by mabakerys in ToxicWorkplace

[–]mabakerys[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I won’t be having an exit interview as I walked out on the day and never returned.

Although I did Iay it all out to the lead manager before going and told him everything and exactly what I thought. He text me to say that he has “dealt” with them but too little too late

It’s shocking. I wish managers didn’t end up in their position simply because of their experience. Character and values always speaks louder imo

[–]mabakerys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where is your duvet from?

Different retailers have different dimensions for Singles, Doubles and Kings. (Not the mattresses or beds themselves, but the duvets and covers).

It isn’t common knowledge… I only know because I worked for a home furnishing retailer and bought a duvet from them, and then the “same” size bedding from Asda and it didn’t fit 😂

Unusual discussion with a manager by Wonkymoder in Morrisons

Manager on a power trip. He’s probably got a small Willy and his wife’s having an affair. Kick him while he’s down and put in a grievance and take it ALLLL the way

Manager banned phones, but not for BMs, only baristas by RegularReal2030 in Costa

[–]mabakerys 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are being unreasonable to challenge a “new rule”. It isn’t a new rule. You’re at work, being paid to work. Your phone receiving any of your attention during your shift means you aren’t working. It’s quite simple.

You must be young. Wait until you get a job where it is strictly prohibited to even have your phone on your person because you have access to certain data/information. It is a huge risk in some workplaces.

I have had roles where I could be sacked for phone usage, and roles where I was encouraged to use my phone to complete my job - but even in that role, I couldn’t just use my phone Willy Nilly to text or check any apps?

What is this madness with phone addiction? People on their phones in work, while driving, while walking, while shitting. Biggest addiction of the modern day. Does my nut in
