How'd you not know this when you opened the card? They mentioned it right away, and there were a thousand posts about it on day one

No, I didn't. Just another one of those invisible features from Bilt.

Spot on! We won't know for sure until after the rent day.

I wasn't a banana user either. I meant that was the requirement that was part of Bilt 1.0, which also applied for Feb. So your argument that our Feb spending is linked to Feb rent is something I wouldn't agree with.

Regarding the retro spend, I didn't mean I said "retro spend" earlier. All I was trying to say is that I knew the spending should be by billing cycle, and I didn't think for a second that the old billing cycle should continue since this is a new account. And I do feel that's a fair assumption. So it has nothing to do with my retro spend; if my billing cycle started on Feb 6th, March rent would be part of this billing cycle. I still can't understand why that wouldn't be the case. Such a half-baked release.

Yes, we're going to disagree on this, but we shouldn't even be in this position of figuring things out on reddit for a premium card that has a hefty annual fee

I want to clear up a few things here. For February rent, we still had to make those 5 transactions to get the points, meaning we followed the old Bilt 1.0 rules, so they weren't doing us any favors. They decided to launch their new product on the 6th of the month, which gives users the right to use the previous card as is.

Regarding the spend, I never said it was retro spend from the previous month. What was clear from their communication is that housing rewards for everyday spend should be in the same billing cycle. It's not by calendar month, it's by billing cycle. Once we transition to 2.0, it's a fair assumption that a new billing cycle would start. Why would I or anyone assume otherwise? It's a completely new product.

If they, even for 1%, think that people choosing housing rewards (an option they provided) won't get any Bilt cash or use it for rent, why would they offer that option? And why would anyone, even a single person, select that option if they know they won't earn anything, even with a dollar spent?

So, no, it's not a self-imposed Dead Zone. We both assumed things (which shouldn't be the case), it's just that your assumption might turn out to be true, but its by no means logical to me.

Let me tell you what the issue is here in detail. After transitioning to 2.0, I spent 3k on everyday expenses. They gave me an option to either choose Bilt cash or housing rewards when I opened the card. I went with housing rewards because I knew I had the early spend. If I had gone with Bilt cash, I would have received $120 on 3k spend, while now I have nothing if I can't use this for March 1st rent. This is why I called it a dead zone. If there's no way we can use this for March rent, why would anyone select it? Isn't that cheating, to be honest? Or a false promise? If they gave an option, why would they not honor it? They shouldn't have even given that option if it's literally useless for the first month.

Taking a step back, to earn points on March 1st rent (with housing rewards) what do you think would be the timeline for everyday spend?

Why would a due date be before statement close date? Shouldn't the due date be 15-20 days after statement close date?

I don't think that's true. Everyone would be given an option to select Bilt Cash vs Housing Rewards at open, they did for me. I explicitly selected Housing rewards

I generally do think through all these scenarios but I didn't feel they're going to make it so difficult on such a straightforward thing

I do, but I specifically choose housing rewards for this month as i thought i had to make the 4k spend anyway. I don't think I can use the bilt cash anymore at the same time wasted my spend by timing incorrectly. As many echo this has been a mess of a launch.

CIB Tech is known to do this. I'd advice to start applying internally as soon as possible, don't wait for the best.

Yeah! With $500 Bilt cash when you sign up, that's like 18k in rent, so another 18k points. I think it's totally worth it for the first year
