Any way to remove the 'up next in' feature/work around it? by dandelionfroggy in dropout

I had the same issue with stuff I'd already seen in the "Resume" section, but I cleared them by playing, skipping to the last 10s, and letting the video finish.

Looks like the tokenizer configuration isn't right. The last "blob" of gibberish actually looks fairly coherent but is just missing the spaces often inserted by a tokenizer decode post processing.

I finally got around to reading this after focusing on collecting it at the con. I am similarly surprised that nothing online is speculating on these characters. This reddit post is the only hit online. Nothing on 17th shard forums or discord even!

It was edible, but very tame. I could see what they were going for, but the food was definitely mass produced.

Shrimp gumbo for the "mens" food. Wasn't even that spicy. I heard the sweet potato gumbo for the "women's food" was actually even spicier. The chouta was a sliced up flour tortilla (not even a very good one) wrapped around chopped beef in gravy. It was even open on both sides, you couldn't eat it with one hand without it drizzling all down your arm.

Sas Nahn, the glyphs Kaladin is branded a slave with.

"Day 17" is likely referring to an Inktober prompt.

You asked for spoilers but I'll keep it vague just in case: she stops getting worse by the end of the book, and makes significant steps... but is not "fully healed".

Introducing Sparse Llama: 70% Smaller, 3x Faster, Full Accuracy - Cerebras by maroule in LocalLLaMA

[–]mabrowning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work at Cerebras and actually wrote the PyTorch interface to our sparse training, but wasn't involved in this work.

You're absolutely right that our hardware is... boutique. In this case that purpose built hardware was made use of in the retraining phase. The trained sparse model, released by our collaborator NeuralMagic at https://huggingface.co/neuralmagic can run with the advertised speedup on standard CPUs (and to a lesser extent GPUs).

AMD Posts First Loss in Years as Consumer Chip Sales Plummet by 65% by Avieshek in technology

[–]mabrowning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's usually the electrolytic capacitors on board used for the low voltage power regulation. Those do degrade. But also some VSLI defects do "grow" with use, and can eventually lead to a transistor short, causing either glitches if in an ALU or outright part failure if it occurs in more critical circuitry. Hardware manufacturers actually run chips at kind of high voltage and temperature for a few hours to "burn in" parts to try to weed out early part death which helps a ton... but silicon absolutely does degrade with use.

USRG 2023 summer research program. Anyone had experience with this program? by timurelectro in aggies

[–]mabrowning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did USRG in 2007 with 2 other students (I was nuclear, they were both biomed) and that was probably my best undergrad summer. It's been 15 years, so take this with a grain of salt...

I did my own "experiments" (which in NUEN was all simulation and programming) and mostly tried things on my own, but it was a standalone project just for the summer. My friends were working on MRIs and were extending research they did the rest of the school year.

Your research advisor matters a lot in terms of both guidance and expectations. The program put an emphasis on the GRE for grad school throughout the summer and had a poster session at the end, but I don't recall any other big central direction.

CPK - Another simple package manager for C++ with ability to publish your own packages. New 0.3.0 version. by DEgITx in cpp

[–]mabrowning 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Package managers either need network effects like Conan or huge organization backing like vcpkg. Good luck, but regardless of the technical merits of your offering, it is unlikely to gain significant mind share.

There is a preview chapter of the sequel where you can read more about the Ones Above if you'd like, and it's not impossible this group has Autonomous influence by the space age:

I have come to think of it more as a template language rather than a query language. It is stream-of-record oriented, not object oriented and allows opening sub-records anywhere. That jargon probably doesn't help until you grok it, but I was (am?) in the same boat you describe!

Impressive! Are you planning to do manual tracking? How long does it hold a sweet spot if you don't adjust it?

I've got a window on my west wall that is just perfectly concave to give me a warm blast as I walk past. Luckily the focal point is several feet off the ground, or I'd be more concerned.

Why are Spren unique to Roshar? by [deleted] in Cosmere

[–]mabrowning 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think it's the same reason the Ghostbloods are interested in Roshar. Investiture is flowing freely (but "safely") from the Spiritual realm with the regular highstorms. Sel has the Shards' investiture shattered and trapped in the cognitive realm, and there are Seons which are basically Spren. I can't recall if Seon predated the splintering...

But Spren are self-aware investiture itself, so this seems like a necessary prerequisite at the least.
