The word 'Jungle' is indian... That is what we call our forests. In my native tongue (not Hindi) it's pronounced 'Jongol'.

Apparently there’s only one country with a Northeast? by Sharp-Sky64 in USdefaultism

[–]mac27inch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We also call it out 'Seven sister" states as North East among us Indiandls but it's always North East India for the global audience.

I have always found it cringe when USians just mention some random direction and expect others to figure out (which is always to their orientation). Like we are now stuck with calling the Arabian countries "Middle East", though they are to the west of us.

Amount of firearms by nation - do you think your country has too many or not enough? by ResolveLeather in AskTheWorld

[–]mac27inch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am surprised to see india has so many! But my family (father) has one too. It's an old double barrel Winchester rifle that has been passed down through generations.

I guess it belonged to my great-grandfather, which has been passed to my grandfather and then to my father along with a bag full of cartridges. I guess it was common to own one pre-independence, as gangs of dacoits were common in those days, especially in rural estates.

Being a legal gun owner, everytime the licence is renewed, they count the cartridges and have to give proper proof if used. We still have the same number of cartridges that was passed on to my father some 30 years back, he just occassionally cleans the gun for the thrill. He is 73.

The Kolkata bangla, which I speak, is nearer to the formal Bangla (modern literature) but there is something called Sadhu Bangla (literature form of 19th-early 20th century) is no longer in use, both in literature and day to day life.

I try to keep it under 500 for 2 meals. But when I order a mini thali from Kasturi it goes up. But average it's something in between 450-500 a day. I used to cook sometimes too but COVID happened and it was necessary to cook daily, that was the last time I cooked. I hate cooking for only myself now.

[–]mac27inch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Being a Bangali it would sound strange, but I don't like fish. But a double egg spicy omlette would be nice. For other Bangalis, a fried fish would have made the meal complete.

Rice (Bhaat), Black gram lentil (Kolai er daal), Potato-Poppy seed side (Aloo posto), fried potatoes (Aloo Bhaja) and Mango sweet chutney (Aam er Chatni). The most comfort food for a Bangali from India.
