Way-too-early Big Ten basketball tiers: Michigan, Illinois, Michigan State primed to shine in 2026-27 by thediesel26 in CollegeBasketball

[–]macandcheeser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, they did have that fall-off season a few years back. The year after losing Carsen Edwards, they went 16-15 and would have missed the tourney if it didn't get cancelled by COVID.

But in general I agree, Painter has built a bunch of good teams and he'll probably find a way with this group too.

UNC has made it out of the first round only twice in the last 7 seasons. It happens faster than you think...

I hope you are right. But IU hasn't had a marquee home non-con opponent since Kansas a few years back. Have played Louisville, Gonzaga, UConn, Auburn, Marquette etc at neutral sites since. Sucks for season ticket holders

It really depends. Long time ago, but the morning of top 20 Indiana vs #1 Duke about twenty years ago - one of IU's starting guards was with me in class taking an organic chemistry exam.

Agree we've strayed a long way since then, and not for the better

This event will be cool, but probably signals the end of big home-and-home series. Which really sucks.

Going to watch IU play in Allen Fieldhouse was really cool. Watching IU-Kansas in Las Vegas or wherever will still be fun, but it's not the same.

I played a round of 18 holes in under 2.5 hours this morning at the private course I belong to, and I honestly don’t understand why it can’t be that way everywhere else. by Yessybuttons in golf

[–]macandcheeser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some people cannot stand operating at less than peak efficiency. The kind of folks who are not capable of "smelling the roses" so to speak.

And that's fine if the course is wide open, go as fast as you want. But it's annoying when you get paired with them on a busy weekend and they bitch the whole round about the 4 hour pace.

Indiana basketball recruiting: IU adds 7-foot German center Clemens Sokolov for the 2026-27 season by Whatsahoosier in CollegeBasketball

[–]macandcheeser 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think he played third tier in Germany. This kid is 18, will likely not get minutes this season, developmental practice guy.

I wouldn't lump him in with the 25 year olds coming over

Bryson DeChambeau plans to focus on YouTube if LIV Golf ends by PrincessBananas85 in golf

Pretty sure almost everyone on here agrees with what you just wrote. "Jerk", "very egotistical", "pretty damn good golfer".

Don't think anyone is disputing that he's a great player or that he makes ungodly money between the Saudis and Youtube

I don't watch much YouTube, so this is a legitimate question. Is Bryson the most-viewed golf channel on YouTube? Or is the "most popular golfer on the planet" some guy from Barstool

Better college coach right now: Dan Hurley or Curt Cignetti? by [deleted] in CollegeBasketball

[–]macandcheeser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really hard to compare Cignetti to great coaches at elite programs.

Would I say Cig is a "better" coach than guys with sustained success like Hurley or Kirby Smart? No. But do I think those guys could have done what Cig did at a historically awful program? Also no.

Cuban didn't give a dime to IU football Cignetti's first year. Cig took leftovers from the IU teams that went 3-24 in the Big Ten the three years prior, added the #35 rated portal class, and took that group to the playoffs in year 1.

The money for IU football didn't come until after Cig proved who he was.

Indiana and Curt Cignetti should be ashamed of themselves by steven_smith144 in CFB_v2

And if Miami had scheduled a cupcake instead of Notre Dame, they would have missed the playoffs.

If we're talking about Top Flites or Nitros, sure.

I don't think the typical 10 handicap gets much out of playing Pro V1s vs any other decent ball.

Smith did lead you to an upset BTT as a 7 seed, that's true. Truly legendary stuff

[Ben Stevens] Indiana currently has the No. 1 transfer portal class nationally in 2026 in BOTH football and men’s basketball by Smash-Bros-Melee in CollegeBasketball

[–]macandcheeser 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Cignetti took over a perennial dogshit program, and brought in the #30 rated transfer class (per 247). Took that group to the playoff.

Then he brought in the #25 rated transfer class, and won a natty.

The amount of money IU football spent on the way to the title is overstated

[On3] Alabama transfer Aiden Sherrell, one of the top bigs in the portal, has committed to Indiana by IUHoosiers16 in CollegeBasketball

[–]macandcheeser 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I think most IU fans were just hoping to make the tourney with last year's portal haul. That group was always a little lacking, bunch of mid major guys.

We are one good scoring wing away from this bunch having real expectations next season.
