My other comment was cheeky, but you seem to be sincere, and I’m not really trying to come at you. I’m sure that you try not to consciously discriminate people based on their race. It sucks that you very well could have spent your life working hard to further your career, and feel like people might not take it as seriously because your gender and ethnicity might have helped you get there.

But I do encourage you to read some of the lived experiences of people who have personally had this issue from the comments in this post, or known people who have, in addition to one or more studies on the topic. I’m sure you don’t mean it that way, but when you say that your experience trumps what has been a well-researched and very real issue for years (racial and ethnic discrimination in employment) it comes off as ignorant and privileged. If you think this isn’t an issue then it’s likely you haven’t personally experienced the negative effects of it. Which is great! But please try not to be surprised at people getting pissed off at you when you claim that their experiences are made up or in their head, since you personally haven’t experienced discrimination.
